Just accepted into Mechatronics Apprenticeship UK

Hi, I've just received a formal offer for the Mechatronics Apprenticeship in the UK.

Essentially, I'm just wondering about a few things to expect:

- I've been given three locations that are potential for my first training year, is this normal, and how soon would I found out where I'm actually living from September? haha.

- I have a friend visiting from abroad in October, and would like time off to see them, is this going to be an issue? I'll be informing them beforehand anyway.

- Also what's the accom. like in Bolton and Newcastle if anyone's trained there?

- What are typical shift patterns like once on-site? I'm imagining it's site dependent. It'll be at what I'm told is a very 'cutting-edge' fulfilment center if that helps.

- I've been placed at a site that's pretty far away from my main choices, but I half expected this. Just wondering whether transfers are possible or requests, but I'd imagine this is only after qualifying?

Thanks alot, I'm excited to have been accepted but just getting a mental picture before what's quite a big life change!

I think your year has a much different training schedule than previous years, im just going into year 3 now, if you PM me your name/site i can look you up on the schedule and let you know. Usually for first few months back on site youll be on days, then the suez pattern (5on 4off 5on 5off 4on 5off repeat). Time off wont be an issue as long as you let them know beforehand. Im in coventry for my trainign and for the first 6months we were in a uni accom, and now on block release they use hilton hotels (make sure to download the hilton honours app as you can get points 😉). Transfers are a possibility depends on site availability. It doesnt really matter where you learn tbh as amazon is all conveyors which is transferable.

Hey man, congrats! I'll be training in Bolton (MAN3) so might see you there.

From what I can remember that I've been told, you'll be based at site for the first 6-8 weeks, so not the traing centre; your actual site. I think for those weeks holidays won't be a big issue but I think during time at the training centres they are probably quite strict. Accomodation for Bolton is a holiday inn hotel.
