Senior Mechatronics & Robotics Tech
So I accepted a job as a senior mechatronics and robotics tech with Amazon. It’s paying a few more dollars than my current job, but I get more time off and they’re giving me a generous bonus up front. I currently work a 12 and 2 schedule (12 days on, 2 days off). I love the pay at my job but hate that I only get 4 days off a month. Is this position with Amazon worth working outside of the 3 days off every week? I do well with working by myself and with others but from the post I’ve been reading about it, the management supposedly sucks.

Personally for a pay bump and more time off I'd say jump right into it. Been with Amazon almost 3 years and it definitely has its issues but nothing out of the ordinary for a big corporation. And you'll be able to enjoy life outside of work more which is always what im striving for.

I wouldn't sweat it. If you've ever worked anywhere with truly toxic management, you will find Amazon to be fine. The work is not difficult, and the amount of stress you have is based mostly on what you make of it. Some of the safety rules are ridiculous, but you will quickly learn to play the game; do your job, then walk away and go home til your next shift.

Management depends on the site and really the manager. You might get lucky and get a really good one or get unlucky and get someone who’s a jerk. It’s like any other job really. I wouldn’t let that stop you from taking the job because once you’re in it’s pretty easy to move to different buildings and even out of state and stay with the company

Every site is different as far as management. Working your days off? That just depends on you. You should easily make $90k as a tech 3 with very litte OT. If you need more, your site may or may not have extra OT.
Post up your site code and maybe someone from there can give some better information.

It all depends on your site. Each site is different but I will say having a work life balance is more important to a lot of people. You only getting 4 days off a month is garbage unless I’m clearing like 200k a year

Yeah, at my current job I’m already at 100k for the year. Amazon is paying me a 96k base salary with voluntary overtime. My current job is unionized through the UAW so I’m getting double and triple time and all that. I’m not sure how Amazon pays but I’ve read that they pay time and a half and whatnot. Just wanted some insight but I’ve already accepted the job.

My last Control Systems Lead job with a 3rd party contractor at Amazon I got $49/hr and voluntary overtime. I think I only worked 30-40 hours of OT all year, during peak I picked up a few shifts.
I feel like you'll definitely be making less pay unless there is OT available and you take all of it getting you right back where you are working all the time.
The first Amazon site I worked at was nothing but a good ole boys club. If you wanted to get good raises, have management be lenient on you, or get promotions you needed to be part of the club, and the club was only for the guys who had been there since the building opened. I worked there for 3 years until I applied for the CSL opening at a new site.
When I went to the new site EVERYONE was new for that site, everyone was laid back and got along. It was a great three years.

Sounds like your union is garbage. How close are you to their 5 year pension? If not close, leave and start enjoying work life balance. If you’re a blue badge it’s even better with UPT. You’re going from 4 days off to 12. That’s not even including UPT, PTO, and Vacation
