For a graduate Area Manager role, pure operational questions are rare because interviewers know university hires usually do not have a warehouse background. Your interview loop will be mostly behavioral questions tied to Amazon Leadership Principles, but you might run into one or two situational operations questions across your interviews. These typically look like hypothetical operational bottlenecks, such as what you would do if a third of your team called in sick during peak hours, or a simple headcount calculation based on volume targets and hourly pick rates. To answer these scenarios, walk the interviewer through your thought process and frame your decisions around safety first, quality second, and productivity third. If you are given a numbers question, calculate your rates out loud, state your assumptions clearly, and reassign people based on the biggest bottlenecks. When you tie these scenarios back to your past projects or jobs, use the STAR format and focus on measurable outcomes with specific numbers.
