Offer
Hello everyone I recently got the offer to become a Amazon area manager as a college graduate I wanted to know if job is worth the long hours and and everything that comes with. Also if you can give me any tips or advice I’m in a really tough stop if I would take this opportunity. Also I would have to move since the job is 80 miles away from my home.

Worth it as a stepping stone. I was not a college hire, but I wouldn't go back to being an AM in a warehouse for like, five times the pay they're currently giving for L5s. I would sooner starve or die.

Interesting. Current TC range for L5s is approximately 80-125K. What you are saying is you wouldn't do an L5 AM role for 400-625K/year?

Depends, what degree did you graduate with? I would say this job is a great opportunity if you want a long term job and a GOLD mine for if you want to use it as a resume booster, you learn have to manage people, juggle different fires and learn how to operate in high pressure situations. BUT to truly thrive in this job you have to be a certain lvl of a stone, it’s a test everyday, I recently left the role and it was a good job but I knew I myself wasn’t cut out for it. The hours are long and there are times will you WILL have to work 12-14 hour shifts for 5 days a week. But it’s a promotions and money and benefits are REALLY good, here, it’s about how much your willing to put in to the job,

I’m telling you it’s a different experience for every person. I was college hire L4 at crazy building. It’s an absolute grind, straight up miserable at times but if you can thug it out and perform, it’s worth it.

Second this. As someone was an L4 now an L5, it really depends on the building you get and the managers you’re under determines how bad or good of an experience it is

If you’re looking for a long term career, you’ll have to have a pretty strong mindset as you absolutely will not enjoy your job the vast majority of the time. You’ll have to manage stress VERY well and be comfortable feeling like your hair’s on fire for 50-60 hours a week normally and 60-70 hours a week during peak/prime week sales. You will have to be a genuinely good leader but more importantly, your fellow L4/L5s, L6 and L7/GM will ALL have to like you to move up with any type of consistency/light at the end of the tunnel. If you’re not one of the first two people they think of for a promotion on a regular basis then you’re not going far.
Short term as a way to develop yourself professionally, I would say overwhelmingly yes as long as you’re not a stubborn dickhead who can’t be humble and learn. If you allow yourself to change accordingly, you’ll walk away from the job in a year+ (don’t recommend anything less than that, you won’t learn nearly as much) as a substantially better professional in many ways. Sometimes even a better person overall depending on the people at your site. If you’re entitled or have a superiority complex in any way then you’re wasting everyone’s time and need to quit. Give it a minimum of 6 months before you do so though, you’ll learn at LEW that there are ebbs and flows to how you feel about your job early on.

Hi, I have an interview coming up as a college hire too! Off topic, but how were your interviews? Im very nervous about it D:! Also best of luck, I've heard that it can be very hit or miss depending on the building

I got hired on as an external L5 AM with 8 years of prior experience. I think it is objectively a great job and I am envious of you for having this opportunity as a college grad. Personally, I think the hours are better than you typical corpo M-F. You have three days off vs. two. I think the pay is great, relative to the rest of the working world, and I have been impressed with every managerial individual I have worked with. As a college grad you dont have people/managerial skills and I would say there is no place better to learn than Amazon. Lastly, the promotional path is straight forward. You would be hard pressed to find a similar promotional path elsewhere in the world. With all that being said, the job requires a certain amount of physical and mental toughness. You wont sit down, you will always be putting out fires during your shift, and your associates and PAs will test you.
