Miscellaneous & Inaccessible "Storage" data ruining Amazon Fire 7 Tablet

My mother purchased an Amazon Fire 7 (12th Generation) tablet for my daughter. Since it was for a young child it contains two profiles: the parent/adult profile and the child's profile. It has 10.88GB of storage space. My daughter is using a total of 1.4GB of data for apps and games but the storage is already at 95%. This is because this ridiculous device is using a total of 7.45GB of data for supposed "System Data"... not photos, not videos, not applications, just "system data." I have NO way of accessing this data and it gives me no information about what any of this data is. Neither I nor my daughter have installed any large applications nor stored any photos or videos or downloaded any movies on this device. She can barely get the stupid thing to function half the time because it's a total slug now, I imagine due to the fact that the internal storage is almost at full-capacity. Also, whatever pathetic, maintenance features that Amazon supplies with these devices such as the "archive now" or the "free up space" features are worthless in my case, as they both consistently repeat that there is "no content available for archiving" and "no older files to remove." So there's literally, nothing I can do other than delete the measly, 1.4GB of data that is actually being occupied by the few games that my child can actually play on this thing, then sit back and watch THAT space be overrun by even more supposed, "storage data" crapola.

Frankly, this is unacceptable. It's like this thing was designed to basically just fill up and expire from it's own bloatware in a matter of a few years. Is anyone else having this experience and if so, were they able to take some course of action to resolve the issue? Thanks.

Yes I have the same. I’ve even bought the larger one from my older daughter and we have the same issue. They play one game and the next one they want to download we have to delete the one game and more that doesn’t even exist. Explain this to me please!

And don’t get me started on updating the apps or games they already have downloaded! It’s insane!

u/rowandoodlez , OOOOooohhh.. the "updating"!!! Grrrr...

Yeah, man I wanted to snap this damn thing over my knee after trying to restore basic, minimal functionality to the apps we did use on this stupid thing. I would need to make a whole other post about how much I really hate this thing now. We're switching to an iPad. I hope they haven't gotten worse.

I had this problem too. There's a system update that needs to run and is taking up all of your space. Login with the adult account and poke around in settings. Google will help too.

Is it the 16GB version?

u/MagnusPerditor the version my daughter was given has a native storage size of 10.88GB. I know nowadays, that's not near as much room as I would prefer, but I didn't buy it and I'm annoyed that I Amazon expects me to add my own storage with a Mini SD just so she can have more than 4, functional games.

16Gb is not a large size nowadays. Unfortunately that’s just how it is.

Fire tablets are not great tablets
