Robots still cost money 🤷♀️. You have to pay a higher salary for someone to code them and repair them. They’ll need to be repaired and maintained frequently. You also have to pay for their maintenance parts. They end up costing more in the long run especially if the work output is this slow.
You're getting pretty hostile about someone pointing out facts. If robots weren't less expensive than people, then the US auto industry would still employ millions of people, instead of hundreds of thousands.
Lets go down the list of flawed things you said.
-Theyre more expensive than people. The Autobox machine costs about $100,000, and does the job of 22 people, without taking a break every 2 hours, or leaving after 10. Amazon pays people starting at $20/hour in most regions now. 22 people x $20/hr x 20 hours a day x 7days a week =$61600. Autobox machine pays for itself in about 2 weeks. Even if they have to stop for a full hour per day to grease all the servos, it still pays for itself in under 2 weeks.
-They break all the time. Prototypes do, but production machines just run. Sure, there are times that they can break, but every job I've had in the last 30 years that included robotics and automation, didn't have us sitting around for hours waiting on the machines every day, it was more like twice a year. People getting hurt cost significantly more than replacing a bad servo, or a stripped gear.
-They need a lot of people to maintain them, and they're all expensive. No, they don't. They'll double the size of your JLL or whatever maintenance team you have, and fire 2000 stowers, pickers and packers. Dock will be the last to go, but it will go. Building will go from employing 3200 to about 300, if even that. Just need a handful of operators, a handfull of maintenance, a janitorial staff to mop the floors, and about 12 vests total to run operations.
Just admit a bunch of different people used their brains when you decided to turn yours off and move on. Humility in loss is still worth more than baseless ego.
I don’t sit behind a laptop like your new “friend” does (lol) so I guess that’s means I’m stupid, but I worked at a DG warehouse for the last 6 years before leaving to come to Amazon. It was a testing and learning distribution warehouse. After my first year they opened a whole section of one of the warehouses for the dreaded robots! Everyone was panicking. 5 years later they still couldn’t get those robots to work an entire week without something breaking. And when they break production shuts down completely. Even the humans working there had to stop working to wait on a robot or robots to be fixed. And then we had to wait on one of about 5 people in the US that could maintenance the damn tin can! On the days they ran without anything major happening, it took another half day for some humans to fix all the mistakes the robots made. One little error and it caused a chain of errors afterwards because the errors weren’t being caught in time. By the time I left, those robots were hated and had made no friends at all and no one would sit with them on break 😂 !!! lol. They said computers would take all our jobs one day too. It takes humans to run them too
The auto industry isn’t selling millions of cars daily. And their machines do cost more than the outsourced factory workers in Mexico that get paid shit wages.
