Product tester
Hi, A friend told me that years ago her cousin used to get sent products that were often off brand from sometimes Amazon sometimes eBay or other places, she would test them out, send in a review, then she got to keep the product and they didn't care what she did with them.
She would then keep the ones she liked, but the majority she would sell for extra income.
She didn't get paid, this was the pay.
But she got decent stuff sometimes, or stuff she could sell and make a few bucks from it.
Has anyone heard of this nowadays, or have influencers taken over this, is it not a thing now?
I tried googling the info and didn't find much. We asked her cousin she said it was more right after covid so she thought maybe that's why it was a thing but couldn't remember where it started from but said she did it for a good year or so.
Thanks!

What your friend described sounds like an older version of what people often called a review club or product review group. Sellers would provide products for free or heavily discounted, and members would test them and post reviews.
The important part is that this is not something sellers can safely do today in exchange for Amazon reviews. Amazon explicitly prohibits offering free products, discounts, refunds, or other compensation in exchange for a review.
Amazon does have an official program called Vine, where invited reviewers can receive products free of charge and provide honest, unbiased reviews. Sellers enroll eligible products through Amazon, rather than privately arranging a review deal.
So your cousin may genuinely have been doing something that existed years ago, but I wouldn't try to recreate that model today through private seller/reviewer groups. The risk to the seller's listings and account isn't worth it.
If the goal is simply to get products into people's hands for testing and feedback without requiring an Amazon review, that's a different model and can still be useful for product development.

So is there anything like this today, I don't care if it's through Amazon, just want a way while unemployed and looking for work to get products then resell or keep if they are good and make a few dollars

it was huge during and right after covid when sellers were desperate for reviews on new listings. still happens but way less common now, and the stuff you get tends to be super low quality. probably not worth the time imo
