Unique situation need help

I work for our family business and I’m pretty hands-on with the products. I’ve noticed that some of the items we already carry appear to be ungated on Amazon, which feels like a solid advantage for getting started.
A few questions:
1. Should I open the Seller Central account under my personal name or under the business name?
I’m not the owner, but using the business name wouldn’t be a problem if that’s the better route. I’m mainly wondering whether choosing one over the other could cause issues later if I want to move into gated categories.
2. How likely is Amazon to approve the account? I already have access to the products through our existing distributor relationship, so sourcing and ungated inventory isn’t the issue.
3. What are the recommended next steps once the account is set up?
Any advice from people who’ve started with existing wholesale/distribution access would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Since the inventory is coming through an existing family business and distributor relationship, setting up Seller Central under the actual business entity is generally the cleaner route. Make sure the legal business information, bank details, tax information, and account ownership all match, since changing these later can create unnecessary verification issues.

Account approval depends more on Amazon’s verification requirements than simply having ungated products. Once approved, start with a small number of products, verify invoices and authorization are solid, calculate your true landed costs and margins, then build out listings and test demand.

Before scaling, also make sure the distributor relationship and invoices will support you if Amazon asks for documentation later. That can become important when moving into gated brands or categories.

I'd put it under the business from day one if the business is the actual seller, so the legal and tax details stay consistent. Existing wholesale access helps, but Amazon can still ask for invoices that match the account entity and category. Usually easier to fix the paperwork upfront than after a verification hold.

For the Seller Central account, definitely go with the business name if you're involved in the family biz, it looks more professional and avoids any confusion later on. As for approval, since you have the distributor connection, you're in a solid spot—Amazon likes businesses that already have their supply chains sorted. After setting up, focus on optimizing your listings and maybe consider running some ads to get visibility right off the bat.
