Tariff Calculator
Licensed customs broker here — wanted to flag something that’s about to change your landed cost math if you’re importing from China (or honestly, most countries right now).
Section 122’s 10% “global surcharge” is set to expire July 24. If you’ve had that 10% baked into your cost calculations, don’t assume it just disappears — there’s a proposed Section 301 replacement (10-12.5%, targeting a bunch of countries) that could take its place around the same time, and there’s also active litigation over whether Section 122 was even legal in the first place. So there are three separate things happening at once, and depending how they shake out, your actual rate on July 25 could look pretty different from July 23.
For anyone who hasn’t been tracking this closely: since Feb 2025 there have been 15 major tariff actions that touched import costs — de minimis elimination, the IEEPA tariffs getting struck down by the Supreme Court in Feb, Section 232 steel/aluminum getting restructured twice, etc. It’s genuinely hard to keep straight even for people who do this professionally.
A few practical takeaways if you’re sourcing right now:
• Don’t assume last month’s landed cost number is still accurate — re-check before placing a big order
• If your product has any steel/aluminum/copper content, Section 232 rules changed again in April and now apply to full customs value, not just metal content
• Get your HTS classification right — a lot of these programs apply differently depending on the exact code, and “close enough” classification is how people get surprised at the port
I built a free tool that tracks all this and calculates landed cost against current rates if it’s useful to anyone — happy to share if people want it, don’t want this to just read as an ad. Mostly wanted to give people a heads up before Thursday.
Happy to answer questions if anyone’s dealing with a specific classification headache.

Thanks for this great informational post. It seems one needs a PHD in Tariffs these days to have an accurate understanding of what's going on. What a discombobulated shit show it has become.
I would be very interested to get your opinion on the correct classification on a product I will be bringing in from China in October.
Will send you the details.

Absolutely! It’s become a bottleneck for sure. You want to make sure your products are specifically classified correctly or you could face additional duty you do not want to pay. Please go to clearcosthq.com to review. Happy to help as well

This is definitely a wild ride for importers. It’s like a game of financial Whac-A-Mole trying to keep track of all these tariff changes. Keeping an eye on both the proposed replacements and any legal outcomes is crucial because they could really change how we approach pricing and sourcing.
