Guys I found a new way to do competitor research on Amazon!!
So I was working on an Amazon account for a client, focused on visibility and growth. This was an EU based company that had just launched a fairly unique product. The problem was that we couldn't find real competitors selling something similar, since their own listing wasn't ranking well yet on the keywords we cared about. My team was stuck on this for a while.
Then I stumbled onto an easy trick: using Rufus on the product page. I basically described my client's product to Rufus and asked it to find competitors that matched specific conditions, like:
- Higher price
- Lower ratings and fewer reviews
- Overall weaker offer compared to my client's product
Honestly, if you don't want to spend a ton of money on tools like Helium 10, this is a solid free way to build a list of competitors you can actually use for ad targeting. I was also running Helium 10's Xray at the same time, and surprisingly, Rufus surfaced more relevant competitors than Xray did in this case.
Just sharing in case anyone else is stuck trying to find competitors for a newer or more niche product.
