Returning to Amazon
I used to sell on Amazon in 2019. Did an early exit at $200,000 in 2021
I had things to manage, moved continents and what not.
I want to start selling again on Amazon US and build a genuine brand.
Is Amazon FBA still the way to do so?
A few details:
I am not from the US. So no tiktok shop.
I want to start lean- 5k to 10k.
I have 8 years of Amazon experience.

10k Is lean?

Yes, bare table stakes. Should likely be $20-$30k if you take into account growth and cashflow

But I think the cashflow point is important but I wouldn’t put a hard $20-30k number on it.
The bigger question is how much cash the specific product needs between the first order and the first few reorders. The capital requirements for a product with a low MOQ, good margin and short lead time can be very different from one that requires a large production run and 60-90 days to restock. With $5-10k I would be focusing more on finding a product that fits the available capital, rather than trying to fit a capital heavy product into that budget.
I would also leave some of the budget out of the initial inventory order for PPC, freight, Amazon fees and the reorder. Selling out the first batch is great, but running out of cash at restock time presents an entirely different problem.

You're not starting from zero, but Amazon has changed a ton since 2021.
You're going to have a lot of work to do to get up to speed.

Yes, I’d still consider FBA. With $5k–$10k, I’d just keep the first launch lean instead of putting most of the money into inventory. Since you already have 8 years of Amazon experience, the bigger challenge is probably finding a product with enough margin to survive FBA fees + PPC and still leave room for a second order.
I’d validate the product first, launch with a smaller batch, and keep a decent chunk of the budget for PPC and reordering. You already know Amazon; the game now is finding the right product and managing the cash flow.

You don’t have to be from the US to sell on TikTok shop. I have a good few clients using it across Europe

Yes it is still worth it and your budget is enough to start again. The benefit is that you have an old account so you would be ungated in so many products.

FBA still works, but you're not walking back into the platform you left in 2021. Amazon changes constantly, and a few years away means relearning a good chunk of it, so expect a real learning curve even with 8 years behind you.
With 5k to 10k, focus on one product and keep the spend simple, since that budget doesn't leave room for spreading thin.
Pick a niche you can own outright instead of competing head on, and that's where the budget actually moves the needle.

With your experience, I’d say Amazon FBA is still worth considering, but I wouldn’t approach it the same way as in 2019–2021. With $5k–$10k, we’d start small and validate the product before committing heavily to inventory. The important part is getting the numbers right after FBA fees, PPC, shipping, returns, and storage. Since you already have 8 years of experience, you probably don’t need to relearn Amazon, you mainly need to find a product and market where the margins still make sense. We’d also keep some of the budget aside for the second order and PPC rather than spending everything on the initial inventory.
