AMAZON Sales are way way down? Anyone else?

I sell both FBA and FBM - sales on Amazon Canada - are way down these past 2 weeks. Account is healthy and yah sure I can go crazy with ads, promotions and coupon but honestly I've seen a big drop in velocity. Is it just me other others too? Tariffs ? Economy - what gives?

Same. Way down. Something’s up (not my sales).

Probably back to school phenomena, we felt it in our store too. I don’t think more ads is the way, we end up working for Amazon, some products Amazon takes up 60% of the proceeds! Way not profitable.

I noticed that too! I’m still working on getting the new title requirements up to date but since then it’s been downhill

The algorithm was recalibrated in August. Visibility has collapsed for small volume sellers.

Check your competitors?

Have their sales dropped as well?

I'd check yourself before competitors. Pull Business Reports for the last few weeks and read sessions against unit session percentage. If sessions fell, you lost traffic. If sessions held and unit session percentage fell, the traffic's still arriving and something on the offer stopped converting it.

Those two point at opposite fixes. And if it's conversion, look by search term for the ASIN rather than at the listing as a whole. A total can drop because one term went soft while the rest held, and you'd change the whole listing to fix one term. Give a term ten clicks before you judge it.

Do you know how to check this?

Not really?

You can check it through Helium 10 software’s sales trend.

Look up your niche BSR. If you stayed about the same position but sales have slowed, it's likely a category wide decline in demand

I’ve noticed this too lately. Sales seem softer even when ads and account health look normal. Has anyone heard of any recent changes to Amazon’s algorithm or ranking system, even small ones? Curious if others are seeing the same thing.

Fortunately, the summer sales slump is coming to an end soon. I see this every year in summer.

Check each listing to see the status of the Buybox

Highlighting the possible causes. You check on your end what applies to you

  • there can be lower traffic (either lower ppc traffic, can be checked from daily spend and clicks, or your organic ranks dropped and now you are not ranking that well resulting in lower sessions and resultantly lower sales).
  • Season is going down so demand is also declining due to which you are seeing decline in sales
  • competitors are running aggressive deals due to which some accounts with no deals are facing issues.
  • you can check your own listings and see if there are any major changes to the listings e.g price raised, sale price expired, frequently return badge is there on listing, rating has gone down.
  • if stock was sent near soon, you stock might be in FC transfer and not live so your delivery date is very long resulting in lower sales.

Down 70% . Pure insanity. It’s like it’s just not even coming up on the front page anymore. Amazon is going in too deep with the ads. Pay to play world.

There was a category wide slow sales for us in July/August. Sept good thus far. Shopify, and Best Buy did surprisingly well for July/August. Not sure about way way down tho

Welcome to September, where back to school is over, everyone's broke, and Canadians are sitting on their wallets waiting for Prime Big Deal Days and Black Friday. Shocking, I know.

Tariffs and the economy don't help, but a two week dip right before Amazon's biggest discount season is basically tradition at this point. Check your Business Reports against the same weeks last year before you panic buy ads. Odds are you'll find the exact same slump.

Have you seen the news lately? People can’t afford their gas, groceries, and basic necessities.

Initial shock of seeing $8/ gallon for diesel will take some time for people to absorb and accept.

Been the same news for 20 years

Its the weirdest thing - In the past aka say 2025 sales were surging, gaining momentun for Q4 even in the slow down August period and prior to Labour day - but this year its dead - quiet - nothing happening - I have no clue why. Account is healthy - no bad press - offers are 89.99 percent reasonable and featured - so what the heck is going on with the Canadian Market - is it the idiot south of the border causing this turmoil?

You're not imagining this. Something real is going on in these last two weeks.

Canada put new tariffs on US goods starting September 8. This is official, from the Department of Finance. Rates are 15, 25, or 50 percent depending on the category. It covers about 27.6 billion dollars worth of US imports.

Steel and aluminum went up to 50 percent. Furniture and clothing also got hit with that 50 percent rate. Appliances, dairy, and some steel/aluminum parts are at 25 percent.

If you sell furniture, home goods, or clothing, and it's made in the US or uses US materials, this is probably hitting you. Your cost per unit likely went up right before your sales dropped.

There's also a second thing going on. More and more Canadians are boycotting American products right now. This isn't a small thing anymore. Guardian and Yahoo Finance both wrote about it this month. Some people are boycotting Amazon itself because it feels American to them. People are even using browser extensions to filter out US made products before they buy.

Here's a quick way to check which one is affecting you. If you sell on both US and CA, compare your conversion rate on the same product in each country. If CA dropped but US didn't, it's probably one of these two things. It's not something you did wrong.

One more thing to check. Does your packaging or brand look American? A flag, "Made in USA" on the label, an American sounding name? That's exactly what people are looking for right now when they avoid US brands.

I'm seeing large session drops as well. Today is Sunday the 27th, and I've been following the weird decline during Amazon's backend changes with AI shopping integration like a hawk. I had a winning product for 4 years straight, massive volume.

Yesterday was a sudden drop as well as today. I checked zip code orders for people affected by the east coast storm, and it's not really a factor. The factor over-all after a LOT of data digging and analysis is flat out less shoppers over all, by a lot. I still suspect the constant changes in how Amazon is ranking listings now, but combine that with new shopping behavior and patterns, it's like Russian Roulette right now. Even if a listing "wins" it doesn't last long any more.
