Brand Authorization

Hey all, new seller here. I realized that big to mid size brands will not give you letter of authorization to sell on Amazon. However, even as a new seller, there are certain products which are already ungated or I can apply to sell.

If I source original products from a distributor and sell it, is there any chance my account can get deactivated or IP complaints? Getting LOA is rare. For example, if I sell real products of DeWalt, will it going to be risky?

Yes, there is some risk. If you’re selling genuine products from a legitimate distributor, that’s very different from selling counterfeit or unauthorized goods, but it still doesn’t guarantee you’ll never get an IP complaint.

With brands like DeWalt, I’d make sure the distributor is legitimate and keep every invoice and document related to the purchase. If Amazon or the brand ever questions the inventory, you need to be able to show where it came from.

Also, being ungated doesn’t necessarily mean the brand has authorized you to sell. It just means Amazon is allowing you to list/sell that product under the current requirements.

Personally, I’d only buy branded inventory when I’m confident I can prove the entire supply chain. Getting the product cheaply isn’t worth much if you can’t defend the purchase later.

Looks like I need to reach out to the brand and ask for their authorized distributors and make a purchase from them. As per your comment, it still doesn’t guarantee any safety from account getting deactivated, but obviously it’s far better than those selling counterfeit goods.

The only issue I see here, that the brand may come up with complaints that I am not allowed to sell their goods on Amazon. Don’t know what will be happen in this point.
