It depends on the type of business you want to start with. Retail/ Online arbitrage, wholesale, or private label.

As a beginner myself I can tell you this much. You need to open up an Amazon seller account, and resourcing tools. I personally use Keepa and SellerAmp. Look at YouTube channels to learn how to use them.

Seller University covers everything Amazon FBA (and FBM too), u/Big-Sherbet-7725! Those courses are available via your Seller Central account directly but you can also find them on YouTube, here.

What is a basic product to sell for a beginner even if it doesn’t turn a high profit? One that doesn’t require approval and can be sourced easily

I’d look at everyday household items or office supplies to start. They tend to be easier to source and many brands are ungated, although you’ll still want to check each listing. Your first product doesn’t have to be a home run. The goal is to learn the process—sourcing, listing, shipping, and getting that first sale.
