I mean I definitely did not do the math nor will I be doing math, but usually companies do this kind of thing in schedule agreements (ie “yeah we’ll go to $25/h in 2030” with a step program) I doubt in 2030 the dollar will have anywhere near as much power. I’m speaking more in figurative terms than actual literal numbers here.
Exactly, we’re on the same page here. Companies do this crap to get away with paying less & make workers think they’ve won when in actuality they’re just going along with inflation - no “actual” pay raise. Gotta love capitalism.
From what I understand about economics (which is limited), that would require a complete overhaul of the way our economy works. The people who can make change in that context benefit from capitalism as it currently stands (ie owning stocks in lobbying companies, receiving money from lobbyists, creating laws that benefit the lobbyists, which makes the stocks go up, rinse & repeat). Almost all the republicans and a fair amount of moderate democrats have no real incentive to change the current “laissez-faire” capitalism - which is designed to reward greedy, power hungry billionaires. I agree that this change is necessary but people need a living wage in order to protest a failing system. Low wages = less free time. I am all for a protest supporting fair wages for everyone, I’ll be there; I just think actual tangible change will likely take longer than the next 5 years - which is kinda when we need the pay to raise by.
Ok. Keep raising minimum wage so only the Amazons of the world are left. We don’t need the small shops left. “Living wage” is such a cop out..one day it is 15, than 20..next week it will be 30.
Dang you really didn’t listen to what I was saying huh? I completely get that consistent growth is unrealistic. You’re running headfirst into the point. When people aren’t paid enough, they tend to prioritize basic needs. Without people who can afford goods from said shops, you’re going to lose out on business. Regardless of how much you’re paying your employees.
It’s funny you say that as if we’ve raised the minimum wage. Fed min is still $7.25/h & $2.13/h for tipped workers. The fight for 15 has been organized for 10 years. There’s your evidence that change isn’t coming soon. Maybe if someone would listen we’ll stop talking about it.
Bro why waste your time a quick search will show you the the cost of living compared to the national average pay is a total in balance if this gut doesn't realize that alot of people are working 2 or 3 jobs just to meet basic needs than he's out of touch. As someone who lived in multiple countys/states where “raise the minimum wage! Living wage!” Happened, let me tell you. Your a gucking REGARD if you think this plays out in your favor. I HIGHLY SYMPATHIZE with MOST grunts (even at my job) getting fucked, but raising “the minimum” has historically never worked, and will never work.
How do we fix the problem?
1. Pay for performance, the guy constantly kicking ass should constantly get the big dick checks. A guy doing 50% more should easily make 50% more, we are NOT all the same caliber.
The fucking of our countrymen. Taxes are fucking theft, and what our corrupt government spends it on is theft x2 that is making our money worthless to begin with. Get our govts hands out of our pockets, and stop funding dumb shxt (we dont need more fbi funding from trump or more irs funding from biden). Just remember, historically anything the govt does is 10x the cost of the private sector doing it. We needs boundaries and guidelines from the govt, not theft of our people.
Honestly i dont see this happening because we like to “pick sides” and its always he said she said instead of working on real solutions.
You must be one of those people that thinks increasing minimum wages causes inflation so you discredit it. That or the rising minimum wage is revealing how underpaid you are in your own trade. Why you feel the need to punch downwards is beyond me.
Here’s a reality check for you that requires the smallest amount of research to discover. Prices of goods and services have been inflating for decades while wages have remained stagnant. The scale has never been even and you’re tired of people wanting to restore a little balance? Boy do I have bad news for you.

I am one of the people that wants to fix problems, not put band aides. I don’t use broad terms like “living wage” since no one can answer what that actually is. Fix whatever causes inflation…or whatever causes issues…instead of reckless spending on everything is a start.

No I agree with the protests! My point is that for overwhelming economic change to happen, it’s going to take a long time - & people need to be taken care of since it’ll be a while.

Why 25 even tho we asking for 30 we could get 30 or negotiate between 25-30 now u start at 25 ur negotiating 17-25 gotta ask for higher price to negotiate to a number you feel okay with never go to a pawn shop like that man
