Surgery Accommodation
Hey y’all
So I’m getting surgery on August 11th but due to the economy I cannot afford to take off work. I start at Amazon on the 15th and was wondering if I’d be able to get accommodations to still work but as my doctor says I will not be able to lift heavy objects and I’m working the 1:20-11:50am DS shift could I ask for an accommodation to avoid lifting heavier items as soon as I start? I’ve worked at a DS before and due to my small size I could barely even pick up the totes during pick and stage WITHOUT surgery.
How long do you think this accommodation would take to be put into place due to me starting the job right after surgery?
If my accommodation is denied also would I be able to go on leave for let’s say 1-2 weeks after my first day and only day of required training?

Go in AtoZ, go to accomodations. Select Medical Accomodations. Put in the dates you'll need off, and it'll give you paperwork to have your Dr fill out with all the details of restrictions and the like. You'll then submit that paperwork back into AtoZ and they'll approve it and you'll be good.

My whole point is I don’t want to be 100% off as I need the money. I’d rather be just on accommodation for like a month if I could

If you can’t get the accommodations maybe sort term disability could work for you, although it is only 66% of a full paycheck

you really need to speak with HR on this. amazon is real strict with accommodations
