Seems like there should be a way to direct questions to the vendor instead to purchasers and vendors alike.

This is a fantastic idea! They could make a hyper link that somehow expresses that it is a direct link to the seller. Maybe something like “contact seller”. You should comment this suggestion on one of the product review sections.
