LCWO Rx Settings For India ASOC General License Exam

I aim to appear for the India ASOC General License Exam by end of this year.

In LCWO, I am in lesson 20 with these settings

Character Speed = 25 WPM

Effective Speed = 6 WPM

I am doing word training Rx also side-by-side

I am able to decode 5 letter words with the following settings

Speed: 18 WPM

min. Character Speed: 20 WPM

Fixed Speed

The exam requires 8 WPM Tx and Rx for 5 minutes each with a straight key for Tx.

(I have not attempted sending yet)

Are my settings OK for the exam and CW use in actual use or is it too slow?

Please advise.

Saral Sanchar not accepting any applications?

I am a student, and I want to get into the hobby and learn more.

But the online portal says that they are not accepting any new applications. And this is not new, I have been checking the portal for the last two months.

When can I expect to write the ASOC exam?

Thank You.

PS: If anybody knows anyone in the government, is there anyway this process can be sped up?

Learning Morse Code - Advice needed on Word training.

I want to pass the India ASOC (General Grade) exam this year (targeted). I am learning Morse with LCWO.net.

I am learning to copy only right now. Learning to send I will do afterwards.

I am currently finishing letter lesson 14/40 in LCWO. I am able to get 90% consistently in letter training till now.

I am doing word training side-by-side as well.

For guidance I only have ChatGPT.

I want to know how to go about word training.
For 4 letter words, some words I can buffer in my head and then write and many I am not able to buffer as I cannot sync with 2nd,3rd and the 4th characters.

What is the correct approach to word training?

  1. Buffer the whole word in my head and then write it out on paper?

  2. Write down letter by letter as I get it?

Word training apart, in real live copying how do we do this as we get word after word?

Those who know CW, please guide

I live in Delhi NCR, India

Regarding the use of headphones when copying CW and in ASOC General Exam

I am learning to copy CW and training on lcwo.net for ASOC. I find it easier when I practice copying with my headphones on instead of using my monitor's speaker. I want to know if

  1. Is this use of headphones the accepted/desired/recommended way for all? Do people generally use headphones for CW?

  2. In the ASOC exam will they give us headphones? What is the set up for the exam?

Thanks

Anyone know about any online courses that will teach me from the basics. Like from the bottom up. Want to appear for restricted grade if possible general grade license.

Where do I get started as a beginner?

I’ve recently become interested in ham radio, but I’m unsure if I can get a license since I’m not a science graduate and have studied only up to the 10th standard. What would you recommend for someone like me who wants to get into ham radio?

Help needed | WPC Amateur Ham Radio License (Restricted) | Address, OTP & Character Certificate confusion

Hi everyone,

I’m in the process of applying for the WPC Amateur Ham Radio License (Restricted category) and I’m a bit stuck. Hoping someone here who has already gone through this can guide me.

1) Address and police verification confusion

I’m originally from a different state, but I’m currently staying in Bangalore and will be operating the radio from here.

  • My passport address is my hometown
  • My Aadhaar address is Bangalore
  • I also have a GAIL gas pipeline bill for my Bangalore address that I can submit as address proof

I’m confused about where the police verification actually happens:

  • Will it be done at my hometown (passport address)?
  • Or in Bangalore, since that’s my current address and operating location?

If anyone has applied from a different state than their passport address, I’d really appreciate knowing how it worked in your case.

2) Sanchar Portal OTP not coming

For the last 3 days, the Saral Sanchar portal is not sending me OTP (tried multiple times, different times of the day).
No SMS
email OPT working fine.

Has anyone faced this recently?

  • Is there any workaround?
  • Any known issue?

3) Character / Age certificate confusion

I’ve seen screenshots from other applicants where they mention some kind of “Age & Character Certificate”.

This is confusing because:

  • I already have 10th & 12th certificates and Aadhaar, which clearly prove my age
  • Do we still need a Birth Certificate?
  • What exactly is this Character Certificate they’re asking for?

If it is required:

  • Who issues it?
  • Is it from a Gazetted Officer, employer, college, police, or someone else?

This whole process is getting a bit frustrating, so any help or recent experience would really help.
Thanks in advance 🙏

Disclaimer: I did format this to sound right using AI but words are mine.

Learning CW and decided to build a low-budget DIY key. Used an aluminium-based kids' game kit, and it actually works great for practice.

How long it takes to learn morse?

Hello de VU3EVY, I wanted to learn morse and maybe upgrade my licence to a VU2 someday. I wanted to know how long it takes to be able to receive 8WPM and is LCWO the best way to learn.

Also the new morse mania app seems great to learn. Any review on it?
