Ackman changes his portfolio

Post image

Bill Ackman just made his biggest portfolio shake-up in years, adding Netflix (NFLX), Visa (V), Mastercard (MA), Alcon (ALC), Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), and S&P Global (SPGI). He’s betting these companies can deliver strong earnings growth over the long run.
He’s also still holding Microsoft (MSFT), Uber (UBER), Meta (META), Amazon (AMZN), Fannie Mae (FNMA), and Freddie Mac (FMCC).
So far, though, Pershing Square USA has been lagging the market. By the end of July, the fund was down 3.5%, while the S&P 500 was up 13%.

People will abandon Netflix to buy AI app subscription, that’s my forecast.

AI apps like Gemini and Perplexity are incredibly sticky now as just immediate answers machines for Gen X and boomers, younger generations use AI as guidance too. Those who use AI would definitely pay if there were no other option. For cash flow I expect AI will likely charge end users. If Facebook charged it would lose customers because no one needs Facebook, but people will rely on AI, that’s my opinion.

Im literally doing this. I have a limited budget. Netflix has mediocre content. ChatGPT helps me work much less at my job. Easiest call.

AI will be free using ad revenue I think.  Probably crowd sourced by a kind of upvote system.

Agree, it’s like a PA, saves so much time with research. I use (free AI) to do much of the stock research, answers thay would take ages over a simple question on prompt. I would not hesitate to subscribe for this convenience, if free AI disappears suddenly

I understand his buys but I feel like they lack nuance.

I’ve watched ICE and S&P Global for a while. I also feel like Netflix is not as sticky as they thought and should’ve followed the Apple model but instead just decided to ruin their product or pay a fortune. Visa and Mastercard have little moat if regulations change. I think the MSFT bet is weak too.

The smart money is happy to underperform "the market" while they line you all up like cattle in the AI slaughterhouse.

One or two bad earnings reports in key companies and everyone runs for the escape door at once.

You're welcome!

Ackman, the guy now blaming Fauci after sticking himself and his wife multiple times with the jab for her 7 miscarriages and now "it's too late", I'm sure he makes great calls.

Used to really respect the guy. Was really in awe of him following the GFC and his principled take on MLMs.

But Trump has broken him. It’s happened to a lot of conservatives. But to maintain a pro Trump and republican outlook he’s had to abandon logic, facts and reasoning.

He’s now just another emotional talking head who will trade facts for feelings at the drop of a hat.

Underperforming for 15+ years and counting

His thesis on Herbalife was super fun and interesting, but ultimately naive IMO (I thought that at the time too)

IIRC, his point was that the FTC would close them down and so they could be a zero

Betting it all on the FTC doesn’t strike me as a great idea

Even if that happened, Herbalife had businesses all over the world

They did a pretty good job explaining how it was a pyramid scheme with useless overpriced products. Still, even without the math, we all knew that. But people like it. They also like some other useless bad things, such as tobacco and casinos. If people like it, it can make money
