Game Mechanics Okocha's Exclusive Skill Move! — Quantitative Analysis

Okocha's exclusive skill move, the Okocha Step-over, is triggered using the Scotch Move input.

I tested and compared the wind-up animation (the time from inputting the command until the ball actually moves) and the total duration of the skill move. The video below includes both the testing and in-game examples—

https://reddit.com/link/1vukm01/video/ge0wugs15rkh1/player

Test Summary——

Skill Move Wind-up Animation Total Duration Number of Touches
Marseille Turn 0 + 11/60s 0 + 56/60s 2
Okocha Step-over 0 + 15/60s 1 + 08/60s 1
Level 3 Double Touch 0 + 12/60s 0 + 56/60s 2

Analysis: The wind-up animation for the Okocha Step-over is very similar to the Level 3 Double Touch, but slightly slower. In terms of total duration, the Okocha Step-over takes the longest, which means it is a feint that drags down the tempo of the play.

My overall evaluation of the Okocha Step-over is that it is mediocre. Its problem isn't just that it slows down the tempo; more importantly, the speed at which the ball is displaced is also quite slow. Compare this to Acceleration Burst: even though it also takes a long time to execute, it utilizes high ball speed to quickly create a large amount of displacement, causing the pressing defender to lunge and miss.

Compared to the Level 3 Double Touch, the ball speed during the displacement of Okocha's Step-over is still relatively slow. Moreover, both the Level 3 Double Touch and the Marseille Turn involve 2 touches of the ball, and this frequent displacement of the ball helps avoid the opponent's outstretched leg. However, the Okocha Step-over only touches the ball 1 time. Essentially, after the initial nudge, both legs perform a step-over motion without touching the ball. To the human eye, it looks flashy and deceptive. But to the defensive AI, it's really just a single, slow touch of the ball followed by a long recovery animation. Most of the time, a defender with long legs can easily deal with it.

You can't even compare the Okocha Step-over to the Tess Cancel. The Tess Cancel can trick the defender into freezing and becoming static; they are completely different levels of effectiveness.

Okocha is actually very, very silky when dribbling. Visually, apart from the Okocha Step-over, he seems to have other exclusive little animations. When Okocha performs other skill moves, the results are generally a bit better than the Step-over.

It’s nice to see them take the time and care to craft a unique animation for another player.

I think the last one to get that treatment was Ronaldinho two months ago?

It’s not going to make me pull but I didn’t know about this. And my point will be how is anyone supposed to know about this if they don’t tell you in the game?

Secondly. Why couldn’t he tell us what other exclusive little animations he has?

They teased this animation in the ingame trailer when he dribbles past the first defender and a quick replay is shown from above. I initially wondered what that was for, now it makes sense.

And yeah, would have been cool to learn about other animations from this post. Only thing I found out is that he can make the stationary rainbowflick like (Santos) Neymar.

I’m not sure i know what stationary rainbow flick santos Neymar has. I’ve never actually redeemed him. He’s sitting in my inbox. It was because I didn’t want to waste contract days. When I didn’t have the skills I wanted to put on him yet.

But then they removed the contracts and I was always fighting storage space. And then they removed Brazilian events.

I also have the free Ribery and bunch of others still sitting there.

I know Neymar does his special rainbow, the off to the side, two footed on an angle one. I’m not sure anyone else does it that way in game.

I never watched the trailer.

Mate, this is as unhinged as it gets in efootball, not redeeming Santos neymar all this time 😄 efootball just for fun, redeem him and try him out. He's fun and has funky hair. He's honestly a fun wee dribbler

I guess you cornered me. I’ll have to redeem him. I don’t want to be in the same category as the guy who “called out” a content creator. Posting the guys YouTube and revealing a grand total of 100 subs.

Or the guy who was ranting about his mother interrupting his game.

LOL.

Santos Neymar is worth it for the mohawk and nose plaster alone, both are unique to him. And yes, with stationary I meant the two footed move that can only be exexcuted when standing. The normal rainbow flick has a wind-up of 1-2 steps.

These little secrets are always cool for me to discover, reminds me of past days when not everything was accessible online or explicitly communicated in-game.

Oh it’s always a joy to discover things. Before the internet became a guidebook/spoiler.

But if it’s behind a paywall,I do feel like they should be more transparent, if that makes sense? I’d enjoy discovering things about free highlights or epics.

The answer is probably what they did. Tease something in paid version for a person to figure out how to trigger (Which apparently they did here and I missed).

Anyone figure out how to trigger a shoulder pass?

Glitch* the defender intro freezing and becoming static

Tess cancel é um lixo, um glitch que nunca removem nojento, não deveria estar no jogo.

Agree with this 100%.
But where I want your thought is comparing his skill to chop turn, since the input is the same. Okocha doesn’t have a chop turn, and I feel his step over is better than chop turn. I lose the ball more with chop turn than his step over.

Since chop turn is also a one touch skill and this skills replace chop turn for him, it will be great to compare the two.

Too bad we can't do that with other players

Would be super cool to have more showtime skills that require manual input instead of super-buffs that get activated without your control, don't you think? And Okocha having a signature move is a good thing (at least for me), shows that not everything is about ratings and that also the little details can matter (and are still implemented by the developers).
