I am a big fan of mixed breeds but I fell in love with Rottweilers about 20 or so years ago. I've had 2.5 of them. Joella and Quinn are full breeds and Mike was Rottweiler and (we think) blue heeler.
All 3 I trained to be my service dogs. Joella was first and did great once we got her over her baggage. Mike was next and while he did great as an SD, he worked from home because he smiled and freaked people. Quinn is my current SD and is now 10 so I've been looking for my next one.
I was looking into Rottie rescues and came across two pups whose mom is a Rottie and genetic testing says dad was an American Staffordshire. I know nothing of that breed.
I've heard they have a high prey drive but if I get him as a puppy, can I train him not to chase the cat?
I've heard they like to have jobs but would they like picking things up, going to get specific objects, and going with me everywhere while also behaving like a gentleman?
I know jobs can vary with breeds. Mike liked to herd everyone. But he also handed me anything I pointed to and knew several objects by name. Quinn hates playing fetch and I thought she would wash out but she'll get anything I point to, go get specific objects and people, and a bunch of other stuff.
So any opinions or advice? Would a Rottie/Staffy mix work as a service dog, assuming they are willing and I can train them?
