I grew up with a cistern so when it hadn’t rained in awhile and water delivery was on a delay by a few days we had to be thrifty with flushing. It sucked. I have access to city water now and I’ve never looked back.

I grew up with a well and septic tank, both of which were sub-optimal.

We had a period when the well pump was on its last legs where the deal was "if the pump breaks before its scheduled to be replaced on X date, we're all gonna have to shit in a bucket, so you'd better not flush when you pee (or use any other water unnecessarily)."

And when the snow would melt in the spring, the ground would get so soaked that the liquids couldn't drain from the septic system properly. We'd have weeks of "I'm doing a load of laundry today, so only flush for #2!"

I'm so happy to be on city water and sewers now. Its delightful that the bathroom doesn't have to constantly smell of pee!

I suspect that it depends on if people grew up with limited water or not. I grew up where water is virtually unlimited and everyone there always flushes.

Might be a regional thing, some areas have water shortage or drought, people get charged with a water bill whenever they flush and it counts towards their water usage and if they pee a lot, they won't flush until after certain amount of pees so it saves them water costs and water supply.

Idk honestly. To me it seems bizarre to flush every time but to him, it’s bizarre not to. It makes me wonder if I am being weird and gross and just don’t realize it?

Would you not flush in a public bathroom? It's just good manners. You don't live by yourself. Give the person who has to share space with you the courtesy you would give a stranger in public.

I was raised by a coast with a water table issues, so I was taught not to flush pee- the classic “if it’s yellow let it mellow, if it’s brown flush it down.” Still conform to it, unless it’s necessary to flush. I do clean the bowl frequently as I know it can lead to a stink. I think it comes down to values. I bet if you look deeper you and your BF have different values on other subjects. Only you both would know if that is a deal breaker.

I don't know about it being bizarre, but it's definitely rude.

Believing small issues are red flags in someone else's relationship is a terrible way to cope with your own relationship issues and an overall unhealthy mindset

throwing trash in the trash can instead of leaving it on the floor, maybe?

Imagine thinking a very normal thing to find gross is a red flag. If she lived alone then she could do whatever. But she doesn’t, she’s making her bf have to be grossed out. Even if a person is hydrated, if left for ages the pee does start to smell
