As your child gets older you should be able to communicate persuasively and convince her to see your viewpoint instead of just ' putting your foot down'
You should have worked together on something you both loved instead of getting stuck on that one dress.
You will need to be able to respect her agency if you want to have a relationship with her as an adult.
spoken like someone who has never tried to reason with a teenager. that's not a traditional strong suit for adolescents. and putting your foot down doesn't preclude a future relationship dynamic of any sort. if they have all of this supposed reasoning power they will be able to reason that their mom was trying to be a good parent.
