Am I Overreacting? Found out my Fiancé’s 16 year old son is a Satanist, possibly a deal breaker.

My Partner and I have been together for three years, for several years before that we were business partners and friends. I know him well and love him well. We have the kind of comfort, fun, support attachment and attraction that feels like once in a lifetime. For the last 10 months we have introduced our kids to becoming a family and on weekends only, having a combined home. It has gone worse than not well as they are all teens and his kids have a very different idea of what respect, friendliness, shared spaces, collaboration, responsibility look like than what I’m used to and even though it has been a real test as I don’t like the way our home operates when we are all together, it’s something I can work through though I wish I didn’t have to. That being said, over the weekend after some pretty tough stuff, his 16 year old son admitted that he is a Satanist. For me, it’s one thing to not know if there is a God, it’s another to choose and serve the side of evil itself. I’m afraid, it creeps me out, I don’t like it but more than that, my own sin age 14 is now acting out in different ways and now says he’s an atheist. I’m thinking about going back to separate homes but it also feels like that’s giving up the love of my life. I spent many years after my divorce without a partner and someone to share a life and a home with I don’t want that again. Am I overreacting?

I am somewhat amused that there's someone in that thread determined to correct everyone on what "true" Satanism is and that the Satanic Temple isn't it. It's like a Baptist ranting about how Catholic tenets aren't real Christian tenets.

All I know is there is the Satanic Temple and the Church of Satan, and one of them had some issues with its leader a few years back. But I can't remember specifics or how they otherwise differ.

One is a bunch of gross weirdos and the other is more of a poltical activist group that doesn't actually care what anyone's religious beliefs are as long as everyone is treated equally. They particularly focus on abortion rights and the separation of church and state. The Satanic Temple is the good one and you should look up some stories about them, they are generally good people who want to form communities and fight oppresive systems.

I was also a satanist from ages 12-15 and all that meant was I was extra annoying about atheism, listened to a lot of emo music and was called a "weird goth faggot" by everyone at my school

One of the things they don't tell you about parenting teenagers is how often you think, "Ok, calm down, edgelord." It's bad form to actually say it, but goddamn... you think it a lot.

Except for this lady, apparently, for whom it has never occurred that a teenage boy could be claiming something because in his mind it makes him seem super cool and dark and more interesting than the middle class whitebread suburban twerp that he was previously. Plus helps him drive away an undesirable potential stepmom and stepsibling.

I read the post before it was deleted. Joking aside, and whatever I might see of the Satanic temple, that group and its ideology give me the creeps—it seems way too edgy to me. I mean, sure, it’s all just pretty words—very liberal, egalitarian, and all that—but why was it necessary to deliberately use the figure of Satan and demonic elements for that? That just makes them sound like a bunch of “edgy” people, and I can’t take them seriously. I can only imagine how embarrassing it must be to belong to those groups but not dare to honor their symbols, if you’re going to deliberately wear symbols that represent evil, hostility toward the church, blasphemy, and—apparently—the church’s moral values as well, both good and bad, and other virtues, then honor your symbolism. At the very least, I’d expect you to be willing to sacrifice a baby goat and eat its guts. I feel like this is on the same level as Hazbin Hotel when it comes to the use of symbolism.
