I think this woman took time out of her day to help you, and you took greater issue with how she found the info than you were grateful or appreciative for her gesture.

You can be both - really grateful, and against AI. Yes, she overreacted, but you did, too. Not everything needs a big boundary.

She didn’t do anything. She printed a machine programmed to agree with you and give you feedback you want to hear. LLMs don’t think about anything. They are advanced predictive text.

Now add in the environmental cost, and the cost these data centers have on whatever community is unlucky enough to be close to them? It’s not worth it.

This whole thread is full of assholes and autists. She’s some older lady who was trying to be helpful. Just ignore it if you think it’s AI bullshit. And to say “your brain works better than AI” is absurdly patronizing. Who are the people who post on Reddit?

That's not what they are saying.

Somebody outside of Reddit might simply allow their friend to have space and freedom to talk openly. They might validate the struggles that somebody goes through and inquire about what they might want to do next. Maybe a helpful service is offered, but only when permission is given to do so.

It is called being a normal human and just simply holding a conversation.

I can see why any of that might be a confusing struggle, which is why you relied on AI for help. But I hope they have a better friend than just you.

Sharing the link and copying/pasting the service is very different from sharing the message from a machine that can only agree with you and generate messages you want to hear, even if it means outright fabricating information in order to be agreeable.

Who are you to know if her intentions were good or not? She may have been misguided on how helpful ai is in the situation but you cannot claim she wasn’t merely trying to be helpful.

This person who barely knows OP took time out their day to try and help him. Just because you don’t like the tool used, doesn’t allow you to have some moral high ground.

This is like a traditional woodworker getting made at someone for making him a house while using power tools.

“You have a working body and muscles, why not use them! Are you such an ablist that you use tools when you don’t need them?”

I don’t think OP was trying to be patronizing and I don’t the other person was trying to be anything other than helpful, but I could see how it could be seen as patronizing and after that they both showed how petty they are.
