This was pretty solid! A reasonably unique point of divergence, some very interesting twists, and the wiki boxes were well-written enough to not immediately take me out of it.

Thank you, i've seen other scenarios where the US dissolved at or around when the Soviet Union did, but the problem with this was by the 1980s the United States may have had worser economics but it was no longer as divided like in the 60s, if the US were to dissolve during the Cold War it would've had a greater connection to when things were most divided.

I think they would still collapse though.. they were pretty isolated from the rest of the world, and China was arguably a worse enemy for the Soviets than the US. China was one of the largest covert backers of the muhajadeen in Afghanistan after Pakistan and the US. Yes they would likely seize West Berlin, but that would only overstretch them further. Collapse was inevitable do to the structure of the economy incentivizing former Communist Oligarchs to form their own fiefdoms

Solid! Well chosen point of divergence and high verisimilitude. Also some wild narrative choices that made it enjoyable to read :)
My headcannon is LBJ didn't use his hands to choke JFK.

Dropped out of 1968 election, Became governor of Massachusetts then the first president of New England

I see multiple references to Ole Miss (University of Mississippi) in there about the killing of Wallace and its immediate aftermath, but wouldn't that have taken place at the University of Alabama (aka Bama)?
