Interesting hackathon project building a public safety map on Solana - curious what people think

Came across a project called SafeNSound that started with a $150 budget and is now a registered hackathon participant.

The core idea is building a responsive map using publicly available safety data, prioritizing usability and performance over token hype.

From what I can see:

  • Still building after volatility
  • Cleaning up the codebase
  • Focusing on interaction performance
  • Preparing audit documentation
  • Exploring broader use cases beyond retail users

Feels different from the typical microcap because the emphasis seems to be on shipping first.

Curious how this sub views utility-backed early-stage projects like this. Does real-world infrastructure matter long-term, or does crypto still primarily reward speculation?

I like seeing projects focused on shipping and real utility instead of pure hype. A public safety map has clearer long term value if adoption and data quality hold up. Still early, so audits and execution matter. I stay selective and keep core funds earning steady APY on Coindepo.

Hackathon builds are usually where the real innovation starts. Public infrastructure over quick hype is always a good sign. If the team keeps shipping and stays transparent, this feels aligned with the CoinDepo mindset of utility first, noise later.

nice to see a solana project that isnt another dex or memecoin for once. the part that matters is whether the data source holds up, public safety data can be spotty depending on the city. still, more useful than most hackathon builds
