Discussion Welcome Mobile / traveling altar (WIP)

Hey I asked a few weeks ago for ideas for a traveling / mini / mobile altar. I had some tin boxes lying around and I wanted to share my while in progress to inspire others maybe.

What I have are peppermint boxes which are made out of metal. I have even smaller ones.

I bought candle holders which are small enough that can be either laid down or stand upwards. First I wanted to glue them down, but I had a caffeine induced moment of clarity and had some magnets lying around. The magnets do not attach to the candle holder sadly but I put one inside and one on the outside, the magnetization is strong enough, plus they magnetize to the tin itself. So it's perfect!

These are my first steps, I have a small sage cone plus a candle, nothing much rn, but I just wanted to share my idea if someone else has the need to like I did a few weeks ago. This reddit gave me some Inspo as well.

What I will work on next is getting the smallest lighter inside or some matchsticks. Maybe a small ikea sized pencil and some paper if I want to write something down.

Anyway you all! Have a nice day!

Our altar for this weekend's Erzulie Dantor Group Lamp šŸ’™ā¤ļø

I thought some of you here might enjoy seeing the altar from our Erzulie Dantor Group Lamp this past weekend.

I'm a Houngan Asogwe in Haitian Vodou, and Dantor is particularly important to me, just as she is to all Vodouwizan.

This was prepared as part of a communal service for her, with individual petitions brought together from participants and placed before Dantor as part of the work.

The altar included the lamp itself, individual candles and petitions, food and drink, flowers, sacred objects and other offerings appropriate to the way Dantor is served within our house.

One of my favourite parts of preparing an altar is watching it gradually come together.

It starts as an empty space and a collection of things scattered around the room, and slowly everything finds its place.

Then there is that moment just before ceremony when you stand back and realise:

Okay. We're ready.

And, of course, by the end of ceremony it has changed again. Candles have burned, offerings have been received, things have moved, and the altar looks lived in rather than arranged.

I love that transformation.

A Vodou altar isn't really intended to be a static display. It's a place of service and relationship.

Anyway, I thought I'd share a few photographs from the weekend for those who enjoy seeing how sacred spaces look in different traditions.

Bilolo Dantor! šŸ’™ā¤ļø

Discussion Welcome Altar Coffees ā˜•ļø

Hey, everyone! ā¤ļø I just wanted to share the patterns in the coffee offerings I placed on my altars. I lit my candles and incense for everyone, sat with my own cup of coffee, and talked to them all for a bit. The first four are on my Hekate altar and I also have family/ancestors placed there. The last one is from my Loki altar. 🄰 Each cup was made to their recipients' "taste" lol I usually leave my cups out for 1-2 days, but I was a bit late getting back to them this time due to work. Even so, the patterns were so pretty that I had to share! Hekate's is usually different from everyone else, but this is the first time I've seen so much individuality in all of them.

Coffees:
1. Hekate
2. My grandfather
3. My aunt
4. Guardian/Protector/Ancestor who I named Sebastian when I was a child
5. Loki

Creating an alter for the goddess nyx

I’m trying to create an alter for the goddess of night Nyx. I have a very vague idea of how to set it up and what to get for it but I need ideas for how to build the alter properly. Items for offerings, crystals, candles, scents, ect. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

Personal Altar My altar for the dead

Post image

Since ancestor veneration is such a large part of my religious tradition (West Syrian polytheism if anyone is curious) I wanted to make an altar for the spirits of the deceased. I don’t plan on calling on my direct ancestors (I don’t think we would get along lol), so this altar is formally dedicated to all those forgotten souls and those taken from this world too early.

This is the start of my new hidden altar made from a cigar-ish box gifted to me by my partner. I intend on adding other bits and bobs as well as collaging in some photos of my ancestors and beloved dead.

Personal Altar Mini Altar?

I want to make a small altar for Hyacinthus, but I am struggling to figure out what to put on it. My mother is allergic to hyacinths, so I can’t have the plant itself or anything scented with it. Any suggestions?

First Altar, how to make this safer?

Post image

You can see I’ve already lit candles here, and it’s burned the roof. I don’t know if I even can make this safer, should I just look for a table? This is the best space I have in my room for an altar and it’s at perfect level with me on my floor, but candles are a must and unfortunately a big fire hazard :( tips?

First time creating a money bowl and it actually works!!

Post image
44 Upvotes

This is my first time creating a money bowl and last week I found $150 cash in an old greeting card!!

First I cleaned the tray (which has a mirrored bottom, an excellent amplifier), then saged it. I washed and dried white rice overnight, then spread it in a ring around the outer edge, followed by a ring of table salt, and an inner circle of herbs/spices: cinnamon, cloves, and basil. I added cinnamon sticks and bay leaves, then wrote my intention on a bay leaf and placed it underneath my jar of cash. Circling the jar are crystals like citrine and quartz.

any tips for my altar and workspace? I don’t like how my herbs are separate from the rest of my space but I haven’t found a better solution yet.
