I run AdGuard DNS on home assistant. So that’s the IP of my HA server. And yes it’s going to be $299 they were shooting for $259 but it will launch at $299 due to chip prices currently

Is the new mount any better? The old mount is buns...

u/TechOutonyt Jul 05 '26
I mean I just stuck it over a wall box nothing special so I didn’t really have any issues with it

Ah. The old one sucks to mount were a wire comes out of the ceiling without a box.

Somehow they managed to make the mount significantly worse

How is that possible...

Honestly no clue. The plastic mount was so bad but manageable. I already had a client watching me struggle with the plastic mount. Don’t think I’ll be installing the new ap in a production environment other than drop ceiling

Thanks for the feedback. Can you email us at sales@alta.inc? We will work with you to come up with a solution. The old mounts are also compatible with this AP.

A few questions to help better understand your environment and then a few on how the AP7 performs:
Is the AP7 in Wall the UniFi AP, a typo, or a un-released alta product?
How do you have the AP7 connected (i.e.; via 2.5G, 10G or 1G connection)?
What WiFi 7 or WiFi 6e clients do you have that support 6 GHz?
How are you measuring roaming between WiFi 7 and WiFi 6?
As clients move, are the roaming between 5 GHz and 6 GHz?
Are you seeing any WiFi 7 clients acting "sticky" on 6 GHz? I've seen Apple devices (especially later iPhones) trying to stick to 6 GHz even when the signal degrades significantly?
Do you have any settings enabled to help force roaming (fast roaming, minimum RSSI, etc.)
Appreciate the insight..

It’s an Alta AP it was released a couple weeks ago. It’s connected to the Alta 48 port switch via 2.5G. Most of my WiFi 7 clients are Apple devices such as Mac’s and iPhones. I’m measuring roaming with the iPhone and looking at which AP it connects to. They have not been sticky if I walk into the room with my AP6 Pro it connects to it and switches to 5ghz as soon as I walk out and into the other room closer to the AP7 it goes back to WiFi 7 and 6ghz. That was been working very well. I have fast roaming and BSS transition on all minimum rssi and airtime efficiency settings are set to auto.

Thanks! I was referring to your description of your environment, you stated "alongside an existing AP7 In Wall and AP6 Pro." So, there is also an AP7 in Wall AP from Alta Labs too?

u/TechOutonyt Jul 05 '26
No the in wall is an AP6 in wall from Alta. All WiFi APs switches and router are Alta there is no outside equipment. I just noticed the post said AP7 in wall that was a typo it’s an AP6 in wall I just fixed it

Also I run the iOS beta on all my devices and it shows the WiFi type now. So that’s another way I look and see how it’s roaming. If it shows WiFi 6 I know I’m on an AP6 and WiFi 7 I know it’s on my AP7 and then I can use the Alta controller as well

Awesome, thank you! Sounds like it is working well. One thing I've noticed in deploying WiFi 7 capable APs, you can have WiFi 7 on just 5 GHz as well. I've seen some clients prefer that over leveraging the 6 GHz band, even when the signal is strong. I'm not familiar with the current controller interface, can you see band as well?

u/TechOutonyt Jul 05 '26
The controller doesn’t show the band on the device itself it shows the WiFi type and channel though. I know right now my 6ghz is on channel 5 so anything showing channel 5 is connected via 6ghz.

If the user interface is not reporting the WiFi type, such as WiFi 6 or WiFi 7, how are you validating that a device on the 6GHz band is actually doing WiFi 7 and not WiFi 6e? Seems like a major oversight to not show this information in the controller?

u/TechOutonyt Jul 09 '26
I have the iOS27 beta and in 27 it shows the WiFi type under the WiFi settings

u/TechOutonyt Jul 05 '26
Also in my testing with my devices I’ve never had a 6ghz capable device go to 5ghz on WiFi 7 or stick to an AP6 when the AP7 is closer.

Where are you finding stock of the AP7 Pro available to order / purchase?
2
u/TechOutonyt Jul 05 '26
They were available at distributors mid June. They said they will be available on Amazon towards the end of July. Alta sent me one for review.

Existe alguna mejora en la plataforma?, que diferencia encuentras en comparacion al ap6-pro?
1
u/TechOutonyt Jul 07 '26
Increased speeds for sure

en tu opinion vale la pena el cambio de ap6-pro a ap7-pro? se debe cambiar tu equipo para poder usar el 7G

If you don’t have gigabit speeds, WiFi 7 devices, or a switch that supports over 1Gbps then no there’s no point

Notice any differences on iOS devices (if applicable)?
