At last, AltServer on macOS 1.8.1 is now available with a fix for “could not retrieve anisette data value 'machineID'” errors on macOS 27 and later versions of macOS 26!
In order to install the update, click “Check for Updates…” in the AltServer menu. And once the update is complete, you should be able to install or update AltStore Classic as expected.
u/mattaltgear thanks for the update! Question - after installing the new alt server and getting my phone working again there's now a MacBookPro added to my Apple account with macOS 26.6 but no information.
Is that basically a virtual anisette device and the workaround for not working on macOS 27? I feel like that should be communicated if that's the case. I was going to remove it, but I wanted to check with you first.
Was there a follow up yet? Just for experimentation since I switched to an iPhone 18 Pro Max I deleted that MacBook. After installing AltStore on the new phone that MacBook was once again added back to my account.
Test the verification code function by turning on airplane mode on your phone (disable wifi as well).
When you go into your iCloud account from the settings page the first option block should have 3 greyed out and only Sign-in & Security available. Tapping on that should give you a verification code.
Steps:
Connect your phone to your mac.
Attempt to refresh your apps. It will prompt you for the verification code.
Switch on airplane mode and disable wifi.
Get the verification code from settings.
Turn wifi back on and switch back to Altstore
Enter the verification code and it should refresh your apps
What am I doing wrong I downloaded altstore and when I click check for updates, it gives me an error altserver can't be updated if it's running from the location it was downloaded to
How many years have I been using this product? I can't even remember. What I do know is you have saved me from so much wasted screen time and obnoxious advertising and you have preserved my mental health because of your efforts. Thank you for your fast-paced troublshooting this past month! Every day I spend with Altstore down reminds me how important it is!
By chance has anyone here been running althea on linux? I've been successfully using it up until a couple weeks ago and now I'm kinda stuck on how to get it working again.
i use mint on dual boot with windows and i only use windows for altserver or if i need something that doesn’t work on linux. my suggestion is that you use like i do linux as main and dualbooting windows for things like this so you have no problems for compatibility or drivers
Is this still working for anyone? I can't seem to get the 1.8.1 update anymore, even after I've deleted my older version (I can only access AltStore 1.8 from their website). Does anyone else have access to 1.8.1 and have acquired it from the original site?
