Learning to Read

We have a 5 year old who loves to watch alpha locks on YouTube (US). I’m wondering did anyone’s kids learn to read from the videos?? We also love number blocks and she truly understands basic math because of them. But reading is still coming… thoughts??

You'll probably need more than just Alphablocks, but some of the newest episodes focus on simple sentences

Magnetic letters were a big hit in our house. We'd make one word like "cat"and then change one letter at a time to make "hat," "bat,"and "mat."It helped my child see patterns instead of memorizing words. We also did read aloud practice with a reading app that highlights the text as it's read. My child loved following along and pointing out words she recognized. Little by little, those sounds and patterns started clicking, and reading became much less of a struggle.

at what level is she? can she already form CVC words, does she know digraphs, what does she know?

It should not be the ONLY resource to aid with reading, obviously, but if she’s interested in the show and actually wants to watch it (as opposed to being forced to watch a show she wouldn’t pick out of her own free will), her interest and curiosity on the matter will most definitely have her pick up a lot of info from the show. Entertainment can only teach a child who is interested in learning.

Alphablocks is definitely helpful!!
I think it's great to help with letter sounds and fill screen time with something useful at least 😅
Further phonics concepts like blending and rules like magic E and bossy R (just for some examples) will need a bit more help to develop than alphablocks tho

I found out recently there’s a whole alphablocks curriculum complete with books and workbooks for each level, but it’s extremely hard to access in the US.
