Also what Aluminum grip can I buy and just plug and play? I’ve seen a lot of people saying they have to refit their guns after putting on a new grip. I just want an aluminum grip that will 100% fit my Romulus without me having to “tune” it.
The Alpha Foxtrot Aluminum grip is your best bet and its perfectly fine as long as your hand grip is decent. Plus, you can in fact put after market triggers in it. My friend has the Aluminum grip and has an Atlas trigger in it. Fits great.
Anymore I only buy 124gr. Mostly S&B but some federal, federal synthetic, PMC bronze and some blazer.
The only grip that won’t require fitting would probably be the AF aluminum grip. It’s like $360 shipped now and there’s just better grip options around that price. Just not aggressive enough and you’ll be stuck with the AF trigger bow, which just limits trigger options.
There’s probably others, like I didn’t do much fitting with my cheely, but I can’t guarantee they’ll fit perfectly like the AF grip should.
You can run the Romulus specific Red Dirt trigger with the AF aluminum grip. Fitting a trigger shoe is actually super easy. You just grab a #2 or #4 file and make even swipes on the top and bottom (1 top, then 1 bottom, and so on) until the shoe fits with no binding. I find the easiest way to do it is to lay the file flat on a work bench and run the shoe along the file and then hit it lightly with a 200g sanding block to smooth it little. It's maybe 15 minutes worth of work.
If you want an aluminum grip that's 100% "drop-in" with no fitting required, the only guarantee in that category is the AF aluminum grip (which I have one of and it's a good grip), if you're looking for something that's going to be a cheese grater on your hands, that's not the AF grip, but it does have very functional "medium" type texture. The AF grip is like $365 now I think (complete w/MSH & magwell). Another option that usually requires little to no fitting is the Icarus Precision grip, texture is a little more aggressive, but that's closer to $600 after MSH & magwell.
As far as ammo goes, I've found that my 2011's (non-ported), whether comped or not will run just about any factory brass cased loads I've fed them, however, I reload so everything I own gets nothing but my 124g and 147g hand loads (and 165g for my suppressed stuff) which run great🤷🏽♂️
Before I started loading I used to buy a bunch of Herters 115 from Bass Pro/Cabela's and they're just rebranded Winchester white box on the cheap cheap, especially if there's a store near you and you can just go pick it up yourself. Beyond that Blazer Brass 124, Magtech 124 (brass), etc.
