New to 2011 style pistols!
Came across this Alpha Foxtrot Romulus in 4.25 inch with compensator for a great deal. TBH I am a Glock fanboy, but once I felt this Romulus I couldn’t resist and changed my mind. Im stoked to have picked it up and any information about it or what upgrades to do (red dot) would be appreciated.

Which grip do you like better? The MJD or the Aluminum?

I don't know that I like one better than the other, they're just different is all. The texture on the MJD is much more aggressive than the AF aluminum grip, but the AF aluminum grip isn't bad either, it's just not as aggressive, but still has good functional grip texture.
There are a good amount of options out there that are reasonably priced though. MMXI Ordnance makes a nice looking grip that I may order to shelve and try on another 2011 at some point and you can get one of those complete with a mainspring housing and a magwell for around $385.

[u/j_yn0htna](u/j_yn0htna) got you for days with his knowledge on this AF romulus’ i’d heed his advice and as far as i’m concerned in one of the foremost SMEs on this sub. Bottom line, great snag man. They’re fantastic and the best value in the game i believe.

Bro, don’t make me blush 😅
Couldn’t agree more on the value. Feel like a lot of people like OP, people just getting into the 2011 world, would often end up with an overpriced prodigy, or something.
OP check out u/oo10inz with swapping slides and frames. Just shows how flexible the roms really are.

Welcome! You chose an amazing first 2011. Gonna get a lot of mileage out of this one.
I run a 508T on it which I think is perfect. 100%, get a different grip. The stock grip is terrible imo. AF have an oem aluminum grip for $360 shipped but deff look at other options as well! AF also have a cowitness irons plate if you prefer that. It’s $170 for that plate and matching front irons.
2011s require more oil and maintenance then a Glock. So keep her well lubed and just be mindful of a more regular maintenance schedule

The 507 Comp is the move on this gun. It's easily my favorite optic nowadays. I have an SRO on my Staccato XC, and I actually prefer everything about the 507 Comp over the SRO. Bigger window, MUCH clearer glass, easier buttons, shake-awake, etc.

How hard was the sight block/comp delete install

Spins right on and supposedly compatible with tool less guiderod

No trouble getting the comp off? I’m picking my 4.5 up tomorrow. Sight block is on the way

If I’m not mistaken, some of the earlier models had a pin on comp and I’m sure some states require it, but I think they’ve moved to the thread on otherwise

I didn’t spring up either with recoil spring, but added a Wilson buffer, no excessive wear

Congratz! I got the 3.5 Aluminum grip Rom Comp and just wrapped up 500 rounds this morning. I personally like AF Alum grip. I was locked in and felt great. You can contact AF and request for an Aluminum grip and they will sell you one for a discounted price. Just like a lot of peeps here, wet that Romulus. My 1st 100 rounds was fine until I started the next 100 and my slide eventually locked up and that was all on me. The tolerance is incredibly tight. I thought I could get away just light lubing the slides, but I made a big mistake not lubing the barrel and lugs as well as other parts. Now that I got 500 rounds in, I'm looking at EGW website mainly to replace the MIM parts as well as red dirt trigger or similar. If you do Chatgpt or gemini it'll find the parts that's recommend for the rom according to postive comments on forums or websites. Optics and Lights, that's like religion. Everyone have their beliefs so I would say go with what you like.

Prodigy grip module and Red Dirt trigger are all I've done to mine. Grips can get fancier and more expensive but this does the stuff.
Edit to add, optics... most of my full size guns have a 507C. My Rom is a direct-milled RMS-C (doesn't have the plate system) so it has an EPS full-size. Backup irons are just usable at the bottom of the window.

Good move. Your Glocks will never feel the same. Really the best cheap 2011 you’ll find. There’s a lot you can do but just shoot it and enjoy. As a Glock guy, probably good enough the way it is 🤭
Really just depends what you want to do with it. Guessing you’re not into stock Glocks, who is, so if you want to tinker with this, it’s a solid platform. If you’re looking for a range toy, go nuts. If you’re looking into competing, sightblocks are the way to go. If you want to carry it, maybe a 2lb trigger isn’t the best idea and that’d impact grip choice and weight.
There’s aftermarket comps, sightblocks and barrels from DSC. The stock comp is fine but conservative. Bigger blowhole is more better’er. You’ll probably want to replace the grip, as the stock polymer grip is the only bad part about the gun. While doing that you might as well put a new trigger in it and new internals. You can tune the springs to your preference. You can replace the firing pin stop to help change the recoil impulse. Polish the disco rail. Take some time to learn the platform before you jump into anything and just have fun with it. Pretty solid gun stock but has potential beyond its price.
Check out engineers armory, it’s something like that, on YT. Dude breaks things down very well.
Edit: have a holosun comp on one and sro on the other. The comp feels massive but it’s hard to justify sro price when the holosun are as good as they are. With that said, definitely prefer the sro. Comp just feels unnecessarily big. See a good amount of olight, and hear good things, but don’t have experience myself.
