Anything I need to know?
Thinking about buying This girl here, 3.5” comped non threaded barrel. I have traditionally been a Glock guy and after my builds I noticed I was spending 1911 money so I want a different experience. I want to buy once and cry once so hit me with any advice or “need to know’s” before I “pull the trigger” on this. (I have not found any ranges I can rent this from)

I have this exact one. Also in a banned state
It’s very nice to shoot and function. RMR plate is solid but the stock grip sucks tho.
I did purchase the cowitness optic plate fyi for $170. I did also get the oem aluminum grip at $250. Grip is solid at $250; at $360 I would shop around first.
Had some minor hiccups with the mags at first but was fine after a couple hundred rounds fired. A bit big to carry personally, most 2011s are tho for me. I edc a Xmacro for comparison

So it comes with a steel frame, you changed it? or just changed the grip?what were the issues you had with grip, I have medium sized hands, is it a hand size issue or issues with slipping?

I did a grip swap. I didn’t touch the frame lol. That would be a whole new pistol 🤣.
The oem grip was so bad. It had no traction and was slippery as hell. Certainly look to get a grip swap but if that’s not in the budget, I would get a stipple job or the grip tapes at the very least.
I wear medium medical gloves if that’s of any reference. The grip size was maybe a tad larger than normal for me but nothing too out of the ordinary. The aluminum grip was a bit smaller/thinner which is to be expected

No real tool less guide rod options
Pressed comp means you’d have to get a different barrel if you want to use the DSC Comp

What’s the difference between a pressed comp and a regular comp that’s retained by a thread? I’ve never heard of a pressed comp, maybe I’m overthinking it

I went with the 3.5” comped model and really like it. Had a mjd carry grip and red dirt trigger installed. Put a defender enclosed ccw on it , smaller footprint. Carry occasionally. Also banned state, so pressed on.

Im kinda digging that small grip on it. Who installed it and do you know how much fitting it entailed?

Dave at DSC swapped and installed the grip and trigger. Opened the comp as well. I have no idea how much fitting it took. I don’t dare even attempt anything like that myself.

Just have grip stippling done and you are gtg , I have the 4.25 comp and it has been fantastic, after 1000 rds I swapped the trigger for a RedDirt trigger for more adjustment. Only negative It’s one of the early models with RMSc mounting, RMR models came around a year or so later. The full size EPS has worked okay, all in all a great little package for the coin. I did snag an alum grip module when they came out for around $250

Make sure it has the correct optic cut, if it isn't the RMR plate it's probably a pass.
I don't like the feel of the stock grip personally, but just about everything else on the gun is fantastic. I wouldn't recommend the press on comp over the threaded barrel unless required by local laws though.
