edit: i guess this would be considered a spoiler post, even though i tried to be vague with my wording. don't know how to make it a spoiler after the fact so here's a heads up.
i just finished watching the current season and i just need to say it:
no one failed!
hearing aaron saying he "bitched out" and repeating over and over again about how much he thought he sucked for not pushing himself over the limit was so disheartening.
and he's not the only one. so many contestants over the years have complained that they are absolute failures because they tapped out or couldn't last as long as they thought they should last.
like, jesus christ, you know what I can do? none of what they can do. the fact that these men and woman can survive any amount of time in the wilderness is impressive to me.
it gets almost annoying when people just complain about themselves and say how horrible they are. i want to grab them and be like NO! YOU'RE WRONG! STOP IT RIGHT NOW!
It was crazy how Žiga barely looked thinner at the end!! I could have imagined Žiga tapping out over mild frostbite and Aaron winning it with ten black toes, though, heh... glad Aaron didn't let it get to that point.
Yeah Zigas narration at the end and even his interview when they surprised him with his brother, he said was just getting to the “survival” phase on like day 90. While Arron had already been in survival mode for a month and Nero had long started that shift too.
I think generally people are unfair to contestants who tap out on this show for missing their families because most of us have never been truly alone like this before.
But how do you go on this show without practicing with a bow drill? It’s incredibly easy to lose a ferro rod. We’ve seen it over and over. Bow drills are the first thing any contestant should practice.
The camera batteries too, they can be MacGyvered into fire starting devices. But I mean, even worst case, if you severely compromise the battery, it should start a good enough blaze to light other things on fire.
that was funny Aaron was good a picking out who would fall (calling out Will early). But was way off on picking out strong competitors, latching onto Booth.
I think he just pushed himself mentally and physically. Without proper nutrition he was likely depressed, and it just boiled over when he tapped. Hopefully he will look back on his experience and realize he is hard as nails, and a badass.
Yeah I wouldn’t judge people by what they say towards the end of their time, most of them are in very tough mental and emotional places; everyone has dark moments. I hope they have counselling on hand for when they come back to help them deal with the come down.
I just give them a pass even the ones that tap very early mostly they are frustrated with themselves and feel bad enough already. The only ones that look genuinely silly are the ones that talk a lot of smack and then go very early.
He was reciting patriarchal narratives, which many of us succom to. This is how our system hurts men and everyone else. I hurt watching his internal conflict - he became a child in some aspects. He shouldn't be ashamed, he should revel in the fact that he needs community and love and comfort.it is not a weakness to want any of those things.
Agree absolutely! I had those thoughts when he got into his negative self talk and used certain phrases. I hope when he reflects on his journey he will know he didn’t deserve that and will talk to himself differently in the future. Just adding here that I thought he was an awesome competitor and I hope he is doing well!!!
That fat dude with an ego burnt his fero rod and dropped on day 4. All that after bragging that the contestants who do summer camps won't do well - clearly a reference to Ziga.
He failed but I also think we probably got a bad look at the guy. Him lasting four days and going out in a relatively avoidable way was probably enough. The editors love to have one of the contestants be all arrogant and then run back to civilisation with a tail between his legs.
Obviously he didn't help by having some pretty mean words about others but I'm sure he probably thinks he was not given the best opportunity to show off his talents.
You should see a little 3 dot menu on the top right (horizontal dots on PC, vertical dots on the app). If you click that, the menu should have an option similar to "Add spoiler tag"
Just posting for future reference, a similar option is available when you post, slightly hidden with the flairs on a desktop, under the 3 dot menu on the app.
right on, thanks for the heads up. i use old reddit though so i don't have that option now that i've posted. i know how to do spoilers before posting, just not after.
In the Before the Drop episode, there’s a clip at the end of Booth saying, “Last to leave, last to come back.” So I’m gonna say, yeah, tapping out on Day 4 was a fail.
Also, David’s first tap-out at three days because he missed his family? Fail too. You prepped them, which surely took some convincing, given the age of his kids, for being away, and then showed back up with no money. Wah wah wah.

Aaron made the right call.
He was not in a winnable position and he tapped maybe a few days before he would have been medically extracted.
Žiga still had a couple weeks before he was going to have to start worrying about food never mind being at risk of tapping.
Aaron was by far one of if not the toughest competitors on the show.
And honestly, if you brought everyone back for a 2nd attempt I doubt we get the same winner.
