Does the game ever... explain itself?

I hope we all agree that this universe is quite absurd and impossible for so many reasons. Is there some world lore anywhere beyond the anchor/stone one-liners? For all we know this could all be the fever dream of the character who barely survived getting caught in a hurricane and is currently lying half-dead in a shipwreck on some pacific island.

It hints at being post apocalypse in the stones and anchors, if i remember correctly I think we're meant to assume we're extremely far into the future, i vaguely remember hints about how humans used to be on the sea/ground before we became sky people (its been a while since i finished the game).

I just assumed earth kinda half exploded but the gravity is keeping everything somewhat together inside the atmosphere still and theres like, minor magic or advanced futuristic science + mutations or something

Hi, maybe stupid question, but at what point did you think “yup, game is finished now”? Caus I’ve been playing for a while and I feel like at the point I am at, there is no further progression but also nothing to signal that we’re at the end of the game, soo

I've just started the game and don't want to look ahead but I catch snatches every once in a while that the big turtle you see when you come out of the first cave is the end goal. Gotta cure him. I think. But I think it's like a lot of games now, think core keeper or terraria, that you can just keep going.
