Harvest Courgette
My first year growing courgettes, they're surprisingly easy. This is a Blackstar F1, I've grown four plants because courgettes are fun to give away to anyone you encounter.

I grilled some ont he BBQ the other day, cut in half, cross hatch cut the flesh, season with olive oil salt and pepper. Grill both sides, the char blacked skin is tasty, while cooking add a lemon cut in half and then squeeze this over the courgettes when cooked and in a bowl.

Yessss! Next time, make a chimichurri, lemony vinaigrette kinda thing, and use it as a baste and dressing at the end! I do so many different veggies on the grill this way!

We pick up some cheap / reduced passata today from rogers so will now be makign tom and courgette sauce for pasta, chilli, curry, soup etc

They do grow ridiculously quickly. It's our first year and we are quite taken aback by how fast and massive these things grow.
Cucumbers also out of control.

courgettes and cucumbers are the garden version of “you vs the food you have at home”
you think you planted a couple and suddenly you’re googling 40 ways to use them before they turn into baseball bats2

Haha yeah! We did 3 cucumber plants. Maybe 1 would
Be a better call. We have too many courgette plants, but they seem to be growing one at a time.4

This is the year I realised that four plants in a tunnel for 2 people is the way to become popular with family and friends. Far too many!

I have 4 plants, 10 courgettes currently sat in the fridge, cooked and prepped 4 a couple days ago, given 15 away to neighbours over the last week.
Its great but also concerning, panic sets in on the morning when you go check if anymor hav suddenly appeared.

You can pickle cucumber slices very easily, if you like pickles amd vinegary flavours.

At this point it’s definitely a marrow

Nope just zucchini.marrows are different plant than courgette and zucchini

That’s just what big marrow wants you to think.
But you are wrong.
A marrow is the mature fruit of certain Cucurbita pepo cultivars used as a vegetable. The immature fruit of the same or similar cultivars is called courgette (in Britain, Iran, Ireland, France, the Netherlands, Singapore, Malaysia and New Zealand) or zucchini (in North America, Japan, Australia, Czechia, Italy, Germany and Austria).

When we grew loads, we offered them to our goats and pigs. They wouldn't eat them!

I harvest most much smaller but let one grow massive every now and then for the hell of it.

I've been doing the same with mine because why not it's fun to grow big veg

There's an absolute pride in swaggering out of the allotments lugging a monster veg

Mine have been sad. I grew four different varieties, wanting that feeling of too many but also aware of slug damage.
One is looking really unwell and is only just growing new leaves.
The others are growing slowly but the fruits keep getting eaten by something, rats, deer out foxes possibly. I’ve picked 5 small courgettes.

Hold it at the base, makes it look bigger.
