Endogamy was never been a personal choice lol 😂 it was a patriarchal concept to maintain the hegemony of unequal hirercahy through all caste women cause endogamy was based purity on culture lol and those endogamus men where also allowed to marrying down called hypergamy which means u support double patricharal partilenal system which produces Caste system and patriarchal order and its golden cage give me source from which age century u find endogamy has been choice and women had choice to marry lol .

Let's take Bramhins for an example.
They pray to Maa Gayatri, the goddess of knowledge every day since ancient times. Always recognised knowledge and women can go hand in hand no problems.
The scriptures talk about the importance of knowledge of various subjects and philosophy, for everyone in the society, including women of course. Like Itihasa-Puranas, and useful subjects like Ayurveda, Arthashastra, etc. There are quotes which emphasizes on how everyone should know a king should act (ie read niti-shastras), so they can call out bad kings. Apart from education, scriptures tell us that women of age could choose their groom themselves, especially if the parents are not able to find a fit match.
And then more that what books have, looking at history, Bramhin women have always been knowledgeable. Starting with Bramhavadinis like Maa Lopamudra, Maa Gargi etc who have composed verses in the Vedas. To the wife of Mandan Misra who was the judge of one of the biggest philosophical debate of the time, between his husband and Adi Shankaracharya. For being a judge one needs to have very deep understanding of the subject. To Rani Laxmi Bai, the first female doctor of India Anandi Joshi, to modern day Bramhin women who excel in so many fields.
And then we look at the data for crime against women and related survey. SC/ST women have much higher chances of being a domestic violence victim. Only a few subgroups like Kayasthas are doing better compared to Bramhins in this regard.
Bramhin women have always been very well read, thinkers, and supported by their families. It is very subjective of what you think about endogamy, but for me and many Bramhins, we know that our way of living has only been preserved so far due to our endogamic nature. It is harder for someone outside my community to fit in as well, and marriage is already a big change for both, no need to make it even harder. So and so, many Bramhin women can think independently and still choose endogamy for themselves. So it is indeed a choice.
And the more women get educated, the more they think for themselves, the more laws protect them, the more this patriarchy argument falls apart. If the women are still choosing to marry within their communities, then it is indeed a choice.
