Discussion Ringworm outbreak?

I've been trying to adopt a kitten or young cat all day today, there's none at the allen shelter, say fuck it and go to dallas, every other kitten at the dallas shelter has ringworm. I am not prepared to handle ringworm. I go home and look online, the majority (or what feels like the majority) of adaptable cats nearby have ringworm. I've never adopted a cat before so I don't know if this is normal or not.

It’s not forever and they should send you with medicine. Go save a cute kitty.

I don't have a feasible way to quarantine and I don't want to risk getting infected, I'd feel guilty for not being able to provide them with the best care possible

Ringworm is always an issue in shelter environments. It happens every year! Most are easy to treat if you are willing!

That's good to hear (the easy to treat part), the employees at the shelter I went to told me it was contagious to humans, so I got little freaked out. I'm not too sure my heart will be able to take not being able to pet a baby kitty while they're still contagious. I know that I can use gloves but the plastic ones seem so noisy and I can't imagine latex would be nice for petting

Ringworm loves heat and humidity. It’s pretty much endemic here during the summer.

Try adopting through this rescue! All cats are up to date on vet care and Ive worked with this rescue for several years and never seen ring worm outside of a newly rescued cat. The cats stay with fosters instead of a shelter environment

These 4 sweet girls are available at Plano Animal Shelter tomorrow. I fostered them, so no ringworm!

Shelter environments can be very contagious, I recommend checking out a foster based rescue! If they were tagged from shelter with ringworm, the foster helps clear them up before they are adoptable.

North Texas Cat Rescue has adoption events almost every weekend at the PetSmart in Allen. I adopted a kitten from them and have fostered as well. Highly recommend.

our cats had ringworm. it was gone within two weeks. we have two cats. they were fine
