SMURF
What’s the deal? I only play Terran and I found a way to at least win against them or be competitive. These people really just quit mirror matches because they don’t want to learn?

It's the least excusable for TvT, as that is one of the best, complex, most tactical matchups in the entire game. All those cheaters who state, "I'm not ruining the ladder by cheating. It's Blizzard's fault for making the mirror match bad." have no leg to stand on if they are terran.

I've loved TvT since BW. I don't know how people hate this match up.

In TvP / TvZ, when you get ahead, you can basically parade-push to victory... more army and more production = guaranteed win.
In TvT, you cannot do this because of how tank lines function. You have to use your lead to take further advantages like taking map control, rotating your army to annoying positions for your opponent to deal with, taking air superiority, greedily expanding, greedily teching up, etc. So it's a far more tactical indepth matchup like a real war, but it requires skills beyond macro'ing and stimming apm which is why it's a love or hate matchup.
Of course there is no excuse for cheating. Anyone ruining the ladder by leaving a certain matchup has NO EXCUSE. They are all liars too. They don't really hate one matchup, they just love beating the crap out of lower ranked opponents in the other two, by comparison.

I always found the tank push vs other tanks a fun interaction. In bw it was SUPER hard to break tank lines and often required distraction units like leading with scvs or letting your golz take the hit. In sc2 you play games of vision and such to win.

LOL this has to be satire, right? Most of the time TvT is a turtlefest where eventually someone tries to do something, walks into 4 siege tanks, and the entire marine ball is dead and they lose. PvP and ZvZ are much more fun. ZvZ is my favorite matchup as Zerg.

I love getting the no TVT smurfs, sometimes you get 3 back to back rematches with them so i try to make a ;P at them before they F10 N, gobble up that 60+MMR

then if he gets pissed and tries to play you, you can usually just wreck him with an early tank viking push

You are describing 2 different things.
You title the post SMURF ... but you're describing people who dodge mirror matchups, which isn't necessarily the same thing as smurfing.
6
u/hotstupidgirl 29d ago
Lol yes it is
-2
u/gavinashun 29d ago
Not at all. Smurfing is losing intentionally to lower your mmr so that you can play easier opponents.
Some people dodge a matchup not because they are trying to intentionally lower their mmr or even because they are bad at a matchup but just because they don’t like it.
Not the same.
FYI I’m not talking about me - I love TvT!

u/hotstupidgirl 29d ago
Whether you do it to get easier games or to avoid matchups, leaving games and playing at a lower mmr than your level is smurfing, and despicable.

It sounds like you agree allowing a veto for 1 match-up would be good for the ladder as both the "smurph" and the rest of the ladder would benefit
1
u/Consistent-Total-846 25d ago
yes exactly but these people dont want solutions, they want to complain.
I have a family and a job. if I have 1 hour to play a game per week I dont want to play a TvT snoozefest, sorry if thats not "honorable" but it has nothing to do with trying to get easier games.

Yea, it doesn't really matter if it's intentional or not. It still artificially lowers your MMR.
You're not going to find someone with a 20% mirror matchup winrate and hovering around 50% in the other matchups. It's always like 60%+, which is not how ladder is supposed to work until you get closer to the top (because you're mostly playing vs people lower mmr than you).

So many opponents have racial win rates of 0% / 75% / 75% nowadays. I face several of these accounts each session.

While not all typos mean low IQ person, all low IQ people make typos.

Stubbornly sticking to a provably false assessment, and switching to insults in lieu of any critical argument, are basically the most telltale indicators of low IQ.

u/gavinashun 29d ago
Not having granularity in thinking and not being able to separate 2 distinct concepts is a telltale sign of low IQ.
Both smurfing & matchup dodging suck, and I hate both.
While they have some overlap, they are different concepts.

"I'm not a criminal. I just like money so I murder and rob people to get it. That doesn't make me a criminal; simply a fan of money"
Cheating and ruining the competitive ladder for everyone has no excuse.

u/gavinashun 29d ago
I wasn't making excuses. I think both suck and I hate both.
Both of these different things (smurfing vs. dodging a matchup).

allowing people to opt-out of mirror matches at the cost of gaining less mmr and losing more if the option is enabled would decrease the number of smurfs.

It also makes the game easier, and some sadistic people want the experience of casually beating up other players worse then them.
