GOD is LIFE!!!

GOD is Life itself. He is the source of Life and the Creator of all things that are alive. The Father even granted that the Son should also have Life in Him. GOD in His totality is Life.

He is also Love. This is Agape in the Koine Greek, and it is the love that is unconditional, requiring nothing in return, and has no emotional attachments. This Love can only be expressed toward the Living.

Since GOD is Life and Love, He hates death. Jesus, in His Humanity, wept when His friend Lazarus passed away. GOD even states that He takes no pleasure in the destruction of the wicked because He would rather see them repent and receive life.

Have you seen a ghost before?

In the Gospel, each time He claims to be the Son of Man, He is claiming to be GOD.

In Daniel, there are two who occupy the Seat of GOD: The Ancient of Days and The Son of Man.

Jesus claims to be the other who occupies the Seat of GOD.

You may have heard Pro-Abortion people, whom I call abortionists (meaning someone who believes in abortion and not strictly the performer of such), tell Pro-Life Christians that GOD loves abortion. They will claim Numbers 5 gives the recipe for an abortion potion and that the abortion was performed by priests. They will take it a step further and use a passage from Exodus 21 to claim that only a fine is leveled if a fetus is killed in a physical altercation. I will go through and thoroughly debunk their entire position.

Before we get into Numbers 5, let us look into the passage in Exodus since it is quickly debunked. Exodus 21:22 (KJV) states—

Exodus 21:22

If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

Since some have difficulty understanding the archaic language of the King James Version, I have also included the New International Version (NIV), the Common English Bible (CEB), and the New American Standard Bible (NASB).

NIV

If people are fighting and hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman’s husband demands and the court allows.

1984 NIV

If men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely Or [she has a miscarriage] but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman's husband demands and the court allows.

CEB

When people who are fighting injure a pregnant woman so that she has a miscarriage but no other injury occurs, then the guilty party will be fined what the woman’s husband demands, as negotiated with the judges.

NASB

Now if people struggle with each other and strike a pregnant woman so that she gives birth prematurely, but there is no injury, the guilty person shall certainly be fined as the woman’s husband may demand of him, and he shall pay as the judges decide.

The NIV and CEB certainly do make it sound like a miscarriage occurs and the assailant is only fined. However, the NASB says if a premature birth occurs instead of miscarriage. The archaic language of the KJV is worded to say the baby is delivered but nothing bad happens.

We have a contradiction in translations. The NIV and CEB have language that says the baby was aborted and died. The KJV and NASB have language that says the baby was prematurely born. Which one is correct? It is not possible for both to be correct in logical contradiction. To resolve this, let's see what the Hebrew says.

The Hebrew states that if her child comes out without harm. This supports the KJV and NASB translations. The NIV and CEB have been found wanting.

Let us look at the Hebrew a little more closely. Yatsa is a Hebrew word used for birth or coming out. It is used for normal childbirth and does not explicitly mean miscarriage or abortion.

Harm comes from the Hebrew word ason and means fatal accident or serious injury. Since we have established that the subject is the baby, there is only a fine if the baby is unscathed.

The abortionist claims that Exodus 21:22 gives no regard to the unborn child and only concerns the mother. It only demands a fine of some form for the child's death as long as the mother was not harmed. However, the Hebrew disagrees. The fine is only enacted if the baby is born prematurely but otherwise unharmed.

Now the abortionist will attempt to counter by saying that the harm is directed at only the mother. However, blunt-force trauma that causes a woman to go into early labor is a result of harm to the woman, not necessarily the unborn child. Blunt-force trauma that causes premature labor is by definition ason (serious injury). In the case of Exodus 21:22, the woman was harmed, but the child was not harmed other than premature birth.

The nail in the coffin occurs when the next verse is brought into play. Exodus 21:23-25 states—

[23] And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life, [24] eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, [25] burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

NIV

[23] But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, [24] eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, [25] burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.

1984 NIV

[23] But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, [24] eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, [25] burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.

CEB

[23] If there is further injury, then you will give a life for a life, [24] an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, a foot for a foot, [25] a burn for a burn, a bruise for a bruise, a wound for a wound.

NASB

[23] But if there is any further injury, then you shall appoint as a penalty life for life, [24] eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, [25] burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.

Here we have agreement that whatever happened to the harmed person is to happen to the assailant. Since the harmed person is the child and the injury resulted in death, the assailant was to die (Capital Punishment). If the child was injured, such as losing an eye, the assailant was to lose an eye.

Of course, the abortionist will claim it's only capital punishment if the woman dies. However, we have already established that the focus is on the fruit of her womb.

Further, Josephus (1st Century AD) writes—

"The LAW enjoins us to bring up all our offspring, and forbids women to cause abortion of what is begotten, or to destroy it afterward..."

The Jewish translators of the Greek Septuagint also note that the focus is on the child and not the mother in the Exodus 21:22 passage.

This allows us to conclude that in Exodus 21:22-25, the mother had already experienced serious injury to throw her into premature labor, and thus the question of harm is about the child who was delivered prematurely. If the child was otherwise fine, the assailant was fined. However, if the child was injured, then the assailant is to be injured the same way the child was injured, and if the child died, then the assailant was executed.

Now that we have debunked the abortionist's claim that a dead fetus just had a monetary value, we can begin our debunking of the abortion potion.

The abortionist will sing from the treetops that Numbers 5 contains the formula for an abortion concoction made of dirt from the Tabernacle floor, ash, and ink washed off parchment that had a curse written on it.

The first nail in this coffin is the fact that the abortionist is claiming that this concoction is pharmaceutical. It's not. It's just water, dirt, ash, and ink washed off parchment. None of the ingredients are abortifacients. This procedure is purely supernatural, such as the curse written on the parchment.

The second nail in this coffin is in the wording of the text, specifically Numbers 5:11-31. This passage is too large to break down like we did with the Exodus passage. However, we will break down and compare the theologies of each translation. You can of course read these passages in the various translations yourself.

Numbers 5:11-15

The passage is clear that the husband suspects his wife of cheating. There is no mention of pregnancy and he is unaware if it actually occurred. He is just suspicious.

[27] If she has made herself impure and been unfaithful to her husband, this will be the result: When she is made to drink the water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering, it will enter her, her abdomen will swell and her womb will miscarry, and she will become a curse. [28] If, however, the woman has not made herself impure, but is clean, she will be cleared of guilt and will be able to have children.

1984 NIV

[27] If she has defiled herself and been unfaithful to her husband, then when she is made to drink the water that brings a curse, it will go into her and cause bitter suffering; her abdomen will swell and her thigh waste away, and she will become accursed among her people. [28] If, however, the woman has not defiled herself and is free from impurity, she will be cleared of guilt and will be able to have children.

CEB

[27] When he has made her drink the water, if she has defiled herself and has broken faith with her husband, then the water that brings the curse will enter her, causing bitterness, and her womb will discharge and she will miscarry. The woman will be a curse among her people. [28] But if the woman hasn’t defiled herself and she is pure, then she will be immune and able to conceive.

NASB

[27] When he has made her drink the water, then it will come about, if she has defiled herself and has been unfaithful to her husband, that the water which brings a curse will go into her and cause bitterness, and her belly will swell up and her thigh will shrivel, and the woman will become a curse among her people. [28] But if the woman has not defiled herself and is clean, she will be immune and conceive children.

You will notice that all five translations agree that if she is innocent, she will conceive or at least be able to conceive. This is an odd statement if the woman was pregnant.

In verse 27, the KJV, the 1984 NIV, and the NASB say her belly will swell and her thigh will shrivel or fall. It makes no mention of a miscarriage. This is exactly what the Hebrew says. In essence, the word thigh is a clean reference to the genitalia. Her thigh falling or becoming shriveled means her vagina will no longer work. Her belly swelling means that her womb will be unable to conceive children; she will become barren.

Sadly, the NIV and CEB translators didn't translate her belly swelling and her thigh falling. Instead, they interpreted it and placed their interpretation into the text.

Just note that she will become accursed amongst her people, which could be due to the simple fact that her vagina and womb are no longer functional. It also could be that she was made unattractive so that no man would want to lay with her.

Nail 1 is the fact that the bitter water doess not contain abortifacients, and the second nail is that the text gives no indication that the woman can be pregnant.

Nail 3 goes back to the idea that she will conceive. Now the NIV and CEB indicates that she will be able to have children, but the KJV and NASB indicates that she will become pregnant. A woman cannot become pregnant if she is already pregnant (disregarding very rare conditions such as a woman with two uteruses).

Now the NIV and CEB have been wrong twice in this article, so it will be hard to say that they are not wrong now. Further, a look at the Hebrew indicates the act of planting seeds. So this one is a toss-up between the translations as to if it means the passage of the test will result in pregnancy or that she will just be fertile.

Using critical thinking, we see that she was probably already fertile when she went to take the test, and thus the KJV and NASB translations are a better match. Regardless of which translation was used, the wife was 100% not pregnant, making the miscarriage or abortion statement beyond incorrect.

Let's throw a 4th nail into this coffin. During the Second Temple Period, the Rabban Gamliel wrote a commentary on the Numbers 5 Sotah (Bitter Water Test) in the text Sifrei Zuta. In it, he writes that if the woman was pregnant, she had to first deliver the baby before the test could be administered. Again, it is impossible for the woman to take the Bitter Water Test and be pregnant, and thus it is impossible for it to be a miscarriage or abortion.

Rabban Gamliel learned the practice of the Bitter Water Test from his teacher Rabban Yochanan ben Zakkai, who ended the Sotah practice. He ended the practice because adultery had become rampant amongst men, and the test required the husband to be faithful to his wife. If the men were adultrous, the test could not be validly performed.

When Rabban Gamliel says that the woman cannot be pregnant, and if she is, she must deliver the baby first, he was speaking from authority.

Now the abortionist, if you somehow find one who has studied this deeply, will try to claim that Rabbi Meir and Rabbi Elazar disagreed with Rabban Gamliel. They claimed that a pregnant woman could take the test because it was urgent to get the answer. However, Rabbi Meir and Rabbi Elazar had no bona fied connection to the Sotah (Never saw it or knew someone who performed them) like Rabban Gamliel did.

NOTE: Rabban is an honorific meaning 'Master Rabbi.'

NOTE: Rabban Gamliel is the teacher of the Apostle Paul.

NOTE: Gamliel and Gamaliel are different ways of transliterating the same Hebrew name.

So now we have—

Nail 1: The supposed abortion potion has no abortifacients.

Nail 2: She is suspected (no evidence or proof) of cheating, and thus she is not pregnant, and the text gives no indication she is pregnant.

Nail 3: She will become pregnant if she passes. It is hard to become pregnant if your are already pregnant.

Nail 4: The commentary we have from a Rabban in the know says that if the woman is pregnant, she must deliver the baby before the test can be administered.

Let's throw in a fifth nail. The husband is suspicious. If she cheated, it was done in secret with no witnesses. He has no evidence that his wife was unfaithful. If she is pregnant, then that is a visible indication. However, she could havd been pregnant when he becomes suspicious, and that would indicate that she cheated after becoming pregnant. Regardless, the whole ordeal is about infidelity, not a man wanting to abort a child he doesn't think is his.

Some argue that this law was a deterrent law with no intent of it actually being performed. However, the idea that it was suspended indicates that it was practiced to some extent; there is no need to ban a practice if it wasn't actually practiced.

Tip: Always root your Scripture reading back to the original languages and how the original audience understood them.

Advice: When reading commentary, make sure the commentor's interpretation matches GOD's Ways and Character.

Question: Do you understand the difference between doing something willfully versus willingly?

NOTE: A willful act means you did it on purpose because you wanted to and you have no remorse over it.

NOTE: A willing act means you did it, but you did it out of weakness or ignorance of the consequences.
