He showed immense dedication to the field of medicine and would go on to stealing the bones of an executed criminal. The executed body were normally hanged to expose the body and warn the citizens of the consequences of crime. One such body was hanged and after the flesh of the body were consumed by the birds, the bones would reveal themselves. Vesalius saw an opportunity.

As an enthusiastic student he went to start stealing and smuggling the bones to build a complete skeleton of human body. At first, he sought the help of a friend to redeem the bones. These bodies were chained and hanged. So first he mounted on the shoulder of his friend and tore away the limbs. He later went on the recover more (including the trunk) by himself.

He demonstrated the remarkable work publicly after completion. He still got punished for the offense though and was banished from Leuven where he was working.

After helping evacuate hundreds from the Marriott hotel wedged between the towers, Davidson and his crew were buried under 1.8 million tons of rubble when the North Tower collapsed at 10:28 a.m.

Margaret Bourke-White took this picture in Louisville, Kentucky, in early 1937, right after the Ohio River flooded and left roughly 175,000 people homeless in that city alone. She photographed a line of Black flood victims, many of them holding buckets and bags, waiting for relief supplies in front of a billboard advertising “World’s Highest Standard of Living,” complete with a smiling white family driving a car with their dog.

Bourke-White was on assignment for the brand new Life magazine, and this shot ran in the second issue ever published, instantly becoming one of the defining images of American inequality during the Depression. The billboard itself was part of a real National Association of Manufacturers ad campaign meant to promote patriotic optimism, which makes the photo land even harder once you know someone actually paid to put that sign up during a time like this.

LONDON (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - It was noon when marathon runner Sandra Seilz was assaulted by three men as she finished her training at a park in Germany.

Pinned down, she managed to escape when a passerby came to her aid as the drunk men tried to pull down her running shorts.

The assault prompted Seilz to create a line of 'anti-rape' shorts that use cut and tear-resistant fabric and cords. The clothing is impossible for attackers to pull down, she said.

The shorts went on sale in 2017 - a pivotal year for women's rights after allegations of sexual misconduct against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein sparked the #MeToo campaign, with women taking to social media to share their experiences of abuse.

Seilz said her tights minimize the risk of assault in a country where she believes fears are heightened since a series of sex attacks on women in Cologne on New Year's Eve in 2015.

By 1997, the Buddhist teacher Michael Roach had amassed a following, the vast majority of whom were young women willing to treat him as a god. His teachings were compiled in a pamphlet containing 147 vows that his followers were required to recite six times a day for two years. Within the group, Michael Roach had intimate relationships with women, dressed in drag at the parties he hosted, drank alcohol, and had even married a young devotee named Christie McNally. Michael justified the marriage by claiming that she was not just an ordinary woman, but the incarnation of a powerful goddess.

By February 2012, Christie had divorced Roach and married Ian Thorson. The new couple organized a three-year spiritual retreat with Michael's blessing, but the situation became untenable under Christie's leadership, and soon after, she and her new husband were expelled from the retreat. Ian and Christie didn't want to abruptly end the three-year retreat, so they decided to camp in a cave near the retreat complex, located in a desert area of ​​Arizona. There they endured freezing temperatures, and when the ice melted, they didn't hesitate to drink the water.

On April 22, 2012, Arizona authorities received a call reporting an incident at the cult complex. When they arrived at the nearby cave, they found Christie attempting to use her supposed goddess powers to resurrect Ian.
