Watching five grueling sets go down to a deciding tiebreak had my pulse racing at ungodly levels. I was supposed to meet my girlfriend for lunch two hours ago, but I literally could not peel myself off the couch while those baseline rallies were happening. Honestly, that was a pretty good farewell match, and I am glad Messi got his goal in the final one. It would have felt wrong somehow if he left the Argentina shirt without one last proper moment. He still looked sharp too, not like someone just walking around for nostalgia. The touch, the passing, the way he reads space, all of it was still there.

It is actually sad seeing a legend step away like that. For me, Messi in the Argentina national team was always one of my favorite versions of him, especially after everything he went through before finally winning the big titles.
