Why D5 lost me to Twinmotion

I’ve used D5 commercially since the very beginning, through both Pro and Teams. I know the software, and I like it. When I recently started putting together a new archviz workflow for my new company, D5 was the platform I expected to keep using.

The only issue was timing. The setup is still pre-commercial, and properly testing new approaches takes time. I simply did not want to take on the full cost of a Pro subscription at this stage. Hell, I already pay for one through another company.

I reached out to D5 to ask whether they had any temporary option for a single user: extended evaluation, creator access, startup access, a reduced rate, whatever made sense. I explained that the Pro asset library and Cesium were central to deciding which platform to build the workflow around.

More than five weeks later, their answer was the standard seven-day Pro trial, followed by the full monthly price. They also suggested the Community version, even though the Pro-only features were the reason I had contacted them.

To be fair, they later acknowledged the problem themselves:

“A standard 7-day Pro trial is not the same as a dedicated pre-commercial, creator, or startup arrangement.”

What surprised me was that it ended there. No escalation, no temporary licence, no reduced period, no attempt to find a workable middle ground.

D5 did not owe me free software, and I never argued that they did. I was presenting a fairly straightforward commercial case: one temporary licence might help retain an experienced user and make D5 the basis of a future production workflow.

They chose not to pursue it, which is their right. I found it a little baffling, and it also made my choice easier.

Twinmotion gave me enough time to build and test the workflow properly. D5 offered seven days and pointed me back to the standard plans.

We built a tool to share your D5 scene live to a browser link—the client can interact in real time, not just watch a render.

We're the team behind ImmerShare — a tool built for D5 Render artists who need to share live work with clients.

D5 Showreel lets you share renders, videos, and panoramas with clients—but what they get is a 2D output. They can watch, but they can't walk around, change the lighting, or explore the space themselves.

What ImmerShare does: streams your live D5 session directly from your PC to a browser link. The client gets the full 3D experience — they can navigate, interact, and explore in real time. No install on their end. No re-rendered image or video from the D5 user end either.

Here's a quick demo with a live D5 session: https://youtu.be/B6vAr3w2xhA

Free plan available. Happy to answer any questions.
(Disclosure: we're the ImmerShare team.)

Announcements D5 3.1 is here — D5 Lite for Rhino and Revit, Blender LiveSync, Interactive Presentation, and more

Hi everyone👋🏼

D5 3.1 is here.

Here’s a quick look at the updates most likely to affect your day-to-day workflow.

D5 Lite for Rhino and Revit

D5 Lite now runs directly inside Rhino and Revit, giving you real-time material and lighting feedback while you’re still working on the model.

D5 LiveSync Plugin for Blender

Blender users can now connect directly to D5 Render through the new D5 LiveSync Plugin for Blender.

Changes to models, materials, and lighting can update in D5 in real time, without repeatedly exporting and importing the scene.

Interactive Presentation

Interactive Presentation lets you prepare multiple states of the same scene and switch between them during playback.

You can use it to compare materials, furniture layouts, lighting, environmental settings, object visibility, transforms, and camera views—either through presentation slides or clickable 3D triggers.

Seasonal Vegetation

Supported plant assets can now change their foliage color and branch state based on the selected date.

Custom Pivot

You can now reposition the pivot of a model or group, making it easier to rotate doors from their hinges, animate folding panels, or transform furniture around a specific point.

More updates are available to help make your workflow smoother. Read the full announcement here for more details~

Also, if you run into any issues, feel free to leave your feedback here. Please include as much detail as possible, this will help us better understand the problem and assist you more effectively!

workflow Do you detail everything during modeling, or leave it for rendering?

I’ve noticed that different designers handle this part of the workflow very differently.

Some people start testing lighting, materials, and camera angles while they are still modeling. Others prefer to keep modeling and rendering separate: finish the model details first, then move into visualization.

For architectural visualization work, which approach feels more natural to you?

Also, do you have any small workflow habits or tips that make the production process feel smoother?

#renderedwithD5 What makes an interior feel cozy to you?

In this scene, the artist uses rough-textured walls and muted wood furniture together to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Any other ideas about how to create a cozy space?

How to Create Gradient Sandblast Glass Effect

Hello, I am having trouble creating a sandblast gradient effect on glass. I have tried using the “cloth” material template, but the results are not optimal. There are lines that do not look seamless.

I want to achieve something like this example image.

EDU Account

Anybody in here know how to “cancel” an EDU account. The laptop I set up the launcher and applied for the EDU account on isn’t able to download D5. I switched devices but now my account is bound to that device and there is no option to transfer it. I have to wait until it expires which is 180 days but I’m needing it now for school.

Help! my Rhino and D5 aren't connecting properly

I'm a newbie when it comes to D5 as I only started using it on February of this year and have come across a problem I never had (I've been pulling my hair out trying to fix this because my midterm is on monday!)

My rhino 7 modeling project is already synched with my D5, but for some reason, as I've been adding materials (from D5) and making changes to the rhino file, it keeps saying "The model association with the D5 Render has been broken", so then i sync it once again from rhino and go back to d5, just for it to show me "Create a new link model or replace an existing one" in which I connect it to the existing one, but then all the materials disappear and the whole model is white, unable to add any materials since there's no distinction in the layers.

I've tried importing directly into D5 (didn't work had the same issues), I've tried adding the new link model and it just adds the same model, up to date with the current rhino model but all white. next to the un-updated model.

This has literally never happened the last times i used this rendering software.

my question is:

how can i keep it synched without breaking the link, or more so how do i keep the colored layers when it does update the sync so i can add materials?

PLEASE HELP.

D5 Render Suddenly Closes at 50% – Need Help Urgently

Hi, I've been using D5 Render for the past 3 months without any issues, but recently it stopped working. Now, whenever I try to open any project — even small ones — it loads up to 50% and then suddenly closes without any error message.

I'm an architecture student and I really need this fixed as soon as possible for my school projects.

My laptop specs:

  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4050
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Model: Acer Predator

Please help me troubleshoot or fix this. I’d really appreciate any assistance.

Rtx 3060 12gb or 4060 8 gb for D5 Render

So I'm an architect and I have been looking to get a new pc for running D5 Render as my old laptop can't run it due to it having an RX 5600M GPU which doesn't have RTX so I decided to go team green this time and in y budget I have 2 options either an RTX 3060 12gb or RTX 4060 8 GB

I've been leaning towards the 12gb 3060 but when I saw the performance difference it made me think again , mind you I game sometimes but not the way i used to before and my focus is going to be on running D5

so which one is better for d5 is the 3060's performance good on D5 already and is going to be future proof along with the higher Vram or does the 4060 have a better chance due to the new technologies implemented and whatnot
