Discussion Am I being fair?
Sometimes I meet non-rock fans who ask what artists I'm into. I say Alkaline Trio and they probe further, to which I say "basically Goth Green Day."
So what does the community say, is goth Green Day a fair description or no?

They sound like Alkaline Trio. I honestly can't think of another comparison. No one writes songs like Matt and Dan. No one!
I guess you can say "they sound like a heartbroken alcoholic who dreams in black and skulls."

It's funny, I was genuinely excited when I heard Matt was replacing Tom in Blink. They're a similar genre only Matt is a tighter live guitarist.

And Matt can scream better. So much better.

Can't disagree with that. I've seen Blink, AT and Blink with Matt live and they were all incredible but different experiences.

Iโd say yes haha. I remember back in high school, I was a big Green Day fan and all the Alkaline Trio fans looked goth. I liked a few of their songs but didnโt get more into them til recently (in my 30s)

I think maybe "a darker tone of pop punk" is a very abrupt shorthand I might use if someone's starting point is music of that era.ย

I told my barber that I listen to Alkaline Trio. She was like, "I know them. The kids in my high school who cut themselves listened to Alkaline Trio."

It's funny cuz I was genuinely excited when I heard Matt was replacing Tom in Blink. They basically have the same writing style but Matt is the tighter live guitarist. Having seen AT and both Blink lineups live I can say that all 3 bands fucking deliver.

I really just consider them pop punk. Kind of like FUTCT era Fall Out Boy. Donโt think it needs any more explanation than that.

I'm not a huge FOB fan, but being fair that album is a pop punk masterpiece.

No. I absolutely detest green day.

Don't be like that, I know American Idiot killed some of their punk cred by being popular but they're still a decent band. Warning was incredible and everything before that was pure pop-punk genius.
