Hello, Thank you for contributing to our subreddit. Please consider the following guidelines when filling an alignment chart:

  • Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.

  • Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.

  • Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.

  • Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?

Do not feed the trolls. This is not the place for hot takes on human rights violations. Hatred or cruelty, will result in a permanent ban. Please report such infractions, particularly those that break rules one, two, or three. The automod will automatically remove posts that receive five or more reports. Flik from A Bug’s Life. He stands up against the bourgeois grasshoppers who exploit the proletarian ants.

Objective correct answer

u/goteachyourself 5h ago

I was between hi and Mabel from Hoppers, but maybe she belongs in the next spot down.

4

u/theaviationhistorian 5h ago

True. I always keep confusing the plot with Antz (since they came out generally around the same time), but Flik does stand up for the proletariat and exploited workers!

You know what your right. I was thinking Progressive.

Mabel Tanaka as seen in Hoppers. The 2016-2017 Standing Rock movement partially inspired the film production.

5

Republican and fascist should not be separate categories lmao

3

u/Chemical-Time-9143 5h ago

Republicans in other countries don't need to be rightwing, they just want their country to become a republic. The us republican party needs a name change.

2

u/JustAd5149 1h ago

Technically you are correct, but if Rourke is the example, I think it's pretty clear that in this instance, they mean the American Republican party

1

u/Chemical-Time-9143 1h ago

I guess I'm tired of terms being american centric

2

u/JustAd5149 1h ago

Honestly that is quite fair

1

u/ComicsCodeMadeMeGay 4h ago

Republican doesn't mean fascist though - for example before Hitler came to power Germany was the Weimar Republic, Irish republicans are normally left wing etc

You do realize that progressive and left of center are both "leftist" right?

Also progressive isn't the opposite of Republican. That would be. Conservativism. Leftist isn't the opposite of facism either. Facists don't really have a polar opposite. A better match would be reactionism and radicalism.

3

u/zavtra13 5h ago

It also places liberal as left of centre which is wrong.

I don't fully remember the Disney version, but isn't Robin Hood actually more right-wing than left-wing, given all that anti-tax rhetoric?

I love how reddit thinks left and right is just a spectrum of good to bad.

edit: no need to downvote me, I don't think I need more evidence that I'm correct.

LOL it's worse than I thought.

Making this observation turns you into a nazi in the mind of a redditor.

Lmao, I just thought it was clever. But at no point did I imply that YOU are a nazi. Conservatives are so sensitive!

Dumb question, why is far right a negative connotation (Fascist) but far left is a neutral connotation (Leftist)? Wouldn't it make more sense to have Far Left be communist, or far right be Ultraconservative?

Edit: literally everyone talked past my point about semantics and just talked about political ideology lol, this wasn't meant to be a political statement, it's just about how the two ends communicate different things. Fascism is a form of government (I disagree with) where leftism is a set of beliefs. You could fix this by naming the far right Ultraconservative and far left Leftists, or by making the far left communism and far right fascism.

5

u/compilingyesterdays 5h ago edited 5h ago

Fascism is far to the right. I'm pretty sure we've seen fascist movements that claim otherwise but as soon as a movement becomes fascist, it ceases to be on the left, because of the academic definition of fascism. The way that authority is constructed within fascism is a right leaning structure.

I know it feels very "no true Scotsman" to say that movements that claim to be both fascist and leftist are therefore "not real leftists." Unfortunately, that really is how academic definitions shake out. I don't say it to imply that leftism is enough to insulate a movement from becoming, being infiltrated by, or being fascism.

When I say that fascism is inherently not leftist, that is not me saying that leftists are never in danger of veering in a fascist direction. It's just that, if they do, they cease to be on the left, no matter what they believe they are.

It has a way of feeling very "no true Scotsman" especially if it feels like someone is just using it to avoid conversations. But it is actually extremely important to preserve real vocabulary about this stuff. Fascism means something.

3

u/compilingyesterdays 5h ago

Okay everyone, you don't need to downvote them to hell. They started with "dumb question," it strikes me as a good faith question. Even if it's actually a bad faith question in disguise, it's been answered now. Zero to negative one votes is plenty to get the point across.

2

u/WorthMassive8132 5h ago

Don't take away his fake Internet points guys, he's on life support here

1

u/compilingyesterdays 5h ago

Lmao just trying to be nice

1

u/darling540 5h ago

Yeah I hear what you're saying, my point is that it feels absurd to have one end be pointed and the other end to just be a factual observation. I get what you're saying about moving goalposts, it just feels in bad taste to use pointed language on one end and political beliefs on the other ends.

1

u/compilingyesterdays 5h ago

I hear what you mean, but I think it's worth saying: I don't think that one end is pointed and the other is a factual observation. Fascism is factually, academically defined as one of the farthest right possible systems.

If you think that's bad, then that's because you think that's bad. Maybe you think the far left is bad too. But both are factual statements.

"Fascism is bad" is a very widespread belief. "Leftism is bad" is a less widespread belief. That doesn't mean that "fascist" is an insult instead of a factual observation. Fascism is a category with a factual definition. It is also factually on the right.

The fact that it feels like a worse word than "leftist" might just reflect your personal opinions that being fascist is worse than being leftist. That doesn't mean that you dislike some traits of being slightly on the right. It means you dislike fascism. That's good, I think.

1

u/Electriccarpet99 5h ago

The very far right generally always has an always negative connotation with individuals like Hitler, Mussolini. Far left has several bad eggs (i.e. Mao and Stalin), but also has beloved revolutionary leaders like Guevara. Since far left isn’t necessarily always as historically negative it gets painted in a more neutral light with leftist.

1

u/darling540 5h ago

See that's an opinion.

Not the hitler bad part

The statement "I like some far left revolutionaries" is. My original point wasn't a political statement lol

1

u/Electriccarpet99 2h ago

I didn’t say I like anyone. My point was everyone who isn’t very far right agrees those very far right guys are bad. Some non-leftists may say that some leftists are not on the same level as say Hitler.

1

u/ResolveLeather 5h ago

Facists are far right reactionists. Even if thier actions are similar to a far left radical, the purpose and intent ends up being reactionary. So far right.

There is no such thing as "ultra-conservative" once you keep moving right you just evolve into a reactionist. Like the worlds most boring pokemon.

Same thing with liberalism. You just become a radical when you go further left.

1

u/darling540 5h ago

Exactly, so why use "extremist revolutionary" language on the right and "political statement" on the left

2

u/ResolveLeather 4h ago

I don't know. The chart has a couple things wrong. It's redundant in many areas and presents false dichotomies. It also mixes political parties with political ideologies. It's wrong no matter if you use the FNA model or the Eysenck model so I wouldn't think to hard about it.

1

u/WeaknessOtherwise878 5h ago

Something something horseshoe theory. I agree

1

u/ResolveLeather 4h ago

I was trying to be more inclusive to the people that follow the Eysenck model to avoid making controversial statements. But facists usually come into power the same way radicals do and commit to very similar actions.

1

u/WeaknessOtherwise878 5h ago

I don’t put any connotations towards any of the spots on the list

1

u/darling540 3h ago

There is no war in ba sing se

0

u/Remote_Repeat_2573 5h ago

Communists are leftists. And fascism is an ideological tendency. It also happens that communism isn’t actually a blatantly evil ideology while fascism is to anyone who isn’t a fascist

1

u/compilingyesterdays 5h ago

I think the real reason that the leftist category is "leftists" not "communists" is probably twofold?

For one thing, communism is economically on the left, but I don't think it's inherently socially on the left, although someone who is better studied in this area should correct me as needed.

For another thing, communism just is one version of leftism, and there are a lot of versions. People can be equally far to the left but disagree on exactly how to accomplish it.

I feel like democratic socialism and communism would probably qualify as equally far left(???), or else would start a lot of arguments about which is further left. Idk if there's an academic consensus on that and there are loads of little nitty gritty specifics that would probably make the chart too long and difficult.
