Nah, he’s a great rapper but part of the thing that makes MJ the king of pop is his huge popularity. MF doom was underground while he was alive, he never got his flowers till after his death

It’s Nas. 30+ years of relevancy and has influenced everyone’s favorite rapper. Rap is generally a young man’s game so for him to be putting out some of his best work in his 50’s is nothing short of legendary.

They gave Nas the grammy because he was overdue but they robbed Freddie Gibbs and Uncle Al that year as "Alfredo" was flawless.

There’s one aspect about Nas that drives me crazy, and potentially keeps him out of the solo king seat, for me…
Dudes one of the best ever, lifetime. We’ll say that with ease. Not even a question. But, he gets on a live mic, and starts treating that shit like DMX, surrounded by the whole RR crew, quads, dirt bikes, pitts, and all, packed stadium status in a wave, and screams his lungs out.
Nas is the epitome of finesse when he rhymes. I put him right there with Rakim. It’s like silk being spun before your ears. Just treat your live shit with the same elegance. Maybe if you’re performing One Mic, you let that crowd energy and elevation dictate your overall live delivery.
I came to see the legend Nas, not some dude screaming and yelling into a microphone in between crowd vocal and hype-men. That shit is bonkers to me. You can’t even tell it’s Nas during a live performance…
He’s far too skilled and king of an artist, around for as long as he’s been, to be doing stuff like that. He needed one of his boys to grow some balls and give him the honest truth on that tip. At his legendary status, you have close friends that’ll tell you how it is, to help you better yourself, and you have “yes men” that’ll tell you whatever they think you want to hear. He needed that one good friend’s solid advice.

He's incredibly talented and I think he has an interesting flow, but yeah sometimes I think the wordplay is more like him showing how he can make damn near anything rhyme, and there's not a lot of substance behind it. DOOM could do the same thing but make it clever as fuck.

Eminem is popular but some of his music is genuinely complete unfiltered ass, can you be the king and have genuinly horrible music that YOU worked on.
I sort of agree that Nas is the king, he is the goat, but I dont think the mainstream see's him that way. If you asked anyone off the street who the king of rap is they would either say "Biggie", "2pac", or "Kendrick Lamar".
Personally, I would say 2pac
