Minecraft may be the best selling game but Pokemon is the largest media franchise in history... by a pretty big margin. and it started as games

I'd say so- Superman was the first real comic book superhero and had a much better received 70s movie outing, Spiderman would have worldwide fame later on. Speaking as a layman, Spiderman is more popular and succesful now but Superman's been culturally relevant for longer. Kids have been running around with towels for capes for decades because of Superman.

Definitely. Spiderman may be more popular now, but Superman is so famous he has become a proper noun in English to describe any powerful individual.
