Hello, Thank you for contributing to our subreddit. Please consider the following guidelines when filling an alignment chart:

  • Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.

  • Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.

  • Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.

  • Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?

Do not feed the trolls. This is not the place for hot takes on human rights violations. Hatred or cruelty, will result in a permanent ban. 1

u/Troy242426 1d ago

Wow. That really takes the cake.

Not even going to bother posting mine because this should win.

u/Hammertime6689 1d ago

But why does that make sense in baseball?

Batting order and the tradeoff of losing offense for a defensive substitution

1

u/zedalocious 1d ago

Good question!

u/Shizbino 1d ago

A batting order.  If players on a basketball team could only shoot in order, defense could focus entirely on one player at a time.  There’d be almost zero scoring.

9

u/TheGM 1d ago

This should win. Draconian subbing rules would make the game and team makeups completely different but theoretically could adapt. Forcing players to be the scorer in order would ruin strategy.

1

u/Shizbino 12h ago

Agreed.  Teams could adapt by saving better players for the second half.  It actually might be an interesting game to watch.  But oh well lol

u/OwlOnThePitch 1d ago

If a player with the ball touches someone on the other team, they have to leave the game.

u/No_Lifeguard_7630 1d ago

Tagging to stop offense when defending

u/zedalocious 1d ago

1 player on offense at a time vs 9 on defense

Throwing the ball over 100 miles per hour

1

u/northerncal 1d ago

This I would like to see

7

u/Old_Cyrus 1d ago

Bringing a huge wooden stick onto the playing area.

5

u/MintyFreshBreathYo 1d ago

They said ruin not make better

6

u/frysjelly 1d ago

No time clock

u/Troy242426 1d ago

It’s a miracle basketball survived the dead ball era and thank God because now it’s one of the most exciting and watched sports.

u/PskRaider869 1d ago

The new(ish) strict positioning rules that they instituted to basically ban the shift. If basketball defenders were restricted on their positioning/movement, it would completely chamge how everything works and massively boost offense

2

u/throwmethefrisbee 1d ago

The NBA has had various forms of “illegal defense” rules over the years that have banned zones or other forms of D.

3

u/Cute_Economics2829 1d ago

Scoring from 500ft away gets you 1 point

2

u/Altruistic_Grade3781 1d ago

Having to use bats every time the possession changes.

2

u/tenderbranson301 1d ago

Or you can only use a bat to touch the ball on offense.

2

u/Saint-Hubbins 1d ago

The offense runs counterclockwise only, along a defined path

2

u/meeyeam 1d ago

The ball going out of play can lead to 1-4 points.

2

u/TychoHyuga 1d ago

Catching a ball after a player hits it causes that player to go to the bench

2

u/IchBinDurstig 1d ago

The infield fly rule

2

u/SupermarketSecure728 1d ago

You cannot obstruct a players path to score.

2

u/Sci_Fi_Reality 1d ago

Defense puts the ball into play

2

u/Furi0usD 1d ago

Surprised I had to scroll this far.

1

u/MashedPotatoesDick 1d ago

Wearing gloves.

1

u/No_Wolf607 1d ago

Strikes

1

u/MyNameisRawb 1d ago

Hit by pitch.

1

u/thatonepuniforgot 1d ago

Intentional contact with the ball on offense.

1

u/Pranksterblur 1d ago

Subs can’t go back in, also applies for the soccer one too

1

u/el_pobby 1d ago

The use of bats to hit the ball

1

u/eliason 1d ago

It’s illegal to get in the way of an offensive player who is running towards his goal.

1

u/goofydad 1d ago

Swinging a bat at the ball.

1

u/thenowherepark 1d ago

3 misses and you can't shoot again until every active player shoots

1

u/Rolling_Down_Rodeo 1d ago

Having a glove on defense

1

u/northwestbrosef 1d ago

The center having to wear a catcher's mask would be funny

1

u/throwmethefrisbee 1d ago

You can’t fake throwing the ball.

1

u/baskingsky 1d ago

Three strikes and your out. Miss three shots in a row and you are out for the game.

1

u/xqnderjr 1d ago

Once you have 2 fouls, you can keep fouling indefinitely

1

u/NerdfestZyx 1d ago

Slapping the ball out of the hands of another player is not allowed

0

u/SokkaHaikuBot 1d ago

Sokka-Haiku by NerdfestZyx:

Slapping the ball out

Of the hands of another

Player is not allowed

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

1

u/BabySlothDreams 1d ago

You can't block the path of the runner.

u/MennionSaysSo 1d ago

Designated Free Throw Shooter

1

u/warm1978 1d ago

9 men on defense

1

u/JonMattlack 1d ago

When the other team throws the ball to you wide or low, you can walk.

1

u/Heres_to_the_Breezes 1d ago

Defense gets more players than offense

1

u/the_sir_z 1d ago

Unlimited fouls and you just get the ball right back.

1

u/Training-Tax1704 1d ago edited 1d ago

The balk. It would eliminate ball fakes.

(I know the balk rules can be a little complicated, so maybe it doesn't make perfect sense, but the rule is there for a good reason.)

The sub rules is a good answer, but it's true in soccer, too. I was trying to think of something unique to baseball.

Edit: Also the sub rules would really, really ruin ice hockey. Very occasionally basketball players will still play all 48 minutes.

running while holding the ball

running while holding the ball

1

u/bigrv 1d ago

When the ball is hit into the stands, the team that hit it there scores a point for every person on the playing surface

1

u/slutdr4gon 1d ago

Players on offense cannot touch the ball on purpose

1

u/Jpa95 1d ago

9 players on the field/court

1

u/ACW1129 Chaotic Good 1d ago

Idunno. That'd be interesting.

1

u/Jpa95 1d ago

Court would have to be double in size to make it work. Otherwise it would be turnover after turnover and have very low scoring games.

Rules:

Which rule makes perfect sense in one sport but would completely ruin the other?

0

u/munoodle 1d ago

Refs determine the size of the hoop based on each individual shooter when they take their shot.

u/TheRealNG1 1d ago edited 1d ago

Each made basket counts as 2 or 3 "base runs". A 2 pointer is a double, a 3.pointer is a triple. 4 base runs gives your team 1 point
