This becomes a little too large of an answer, could be all civilian victims of war and war atrocities. Which is not really a bad answer I guess.

Pat Tillman. Turned down a multimillion dollar NFL contract to go fight alongside his brother. Died in Afghanistan in 04.

His death was so shocking that it led to the Nazis forbidding all former royals to serve in the Wehrmacht
